Job Description
The Physical Therapist Assistant II reports to the Physical Therapist and provides optimal patient care by implementing a physical therapy program tailored to individuals based on age-specific needs. This approach emphasizes development and patient/family direction.
This role functions as a staff physical therapist assistant under the general supervision of a Physical Therapist I, II, or III. Responsibilities include supervising PTA students and providing clinical education experiences.
Patient populations served range from infant to geriatric, covering various diagnoses including neurologic, orthopedic, post-surgical, pediatric, medically complex conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings throughout the hospital system.
Education: Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program with less than one year of experience as a physical therapy assistant.
Licensure:
- Physical Therapy Assistant license issued by the South Carolina Board of Physical Therapy Examiners.
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
Physical Demands: The following abilities are essential to performing job functions:
- Continuous standing (6-8 hours per shift).
- Frequent sitting (2-6 hours per shift).
- Infrequent climbing stairs, working indoors, outdoors in temperature extremes, and in confined/cramped spaces.
- Ability to perform job functions while kneeling, bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching overhead.
- Capacity to lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted and exert up to 50 lbs. of force.
- Vision acuity of 20/40 corrected, color perception, and good peripheral vision capabilities.
- Ability to maintain hearing acuity with correction and deal effectively with stressful situations.
- Capacity to work rotating shifts, overtime, and in a latex-safe environment.
