Primary Function: The job of Specialist, Accounting is done for the purpose/s of providing support to department activities with specific responsibility for the processing, recording, updating and reconciling fiscal information in compliance with established policies; providing instructions, recommendations and/or accounting support to other personnel; and analyzing expenditures against budget.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Educational Level:
High School Diploma/GED
2. Experience:
Minimum three years work experience, preferably with 1-2 years of employment related experience processing accounting transactions, preferably cash receipts and/or payables; Must pass the MCSD Clerical Assessment
3. Physical Activities:
Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities
4. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Written and oral communication; accurately perform mathematical calculations; online data entry skills, 10-key by touch; excellent customer services skills
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1.
Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
2.
Analyzes financial information (e.g. contracts, reports, data, etc.) for the purpose of identifying potential budget variances, compiling statistical information, developing procedures, and conforming to established financial practices and regulatory requirements.
3.
Assists auditors for the purpose of providing supporting documentation and/or information on internal process that is required for audit.
4.
Compiles a wide variety of financial information related to work assignments (e.g. profit and loss, reimbursement, labor, etc.) for the purpose of providing required documentation and/or processing information.
5.
Maintains a wide variety of financial information, files and records (e.g. accounts payable, accounts receivable, contracts, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of documentation and compliance with established policies and regulatory guidelines.
6.
Monitors account balances and related financial activity for the purpose of ensuring that allocations are accurate, related revenues are generated, expenses are within budget limits and/or fiscal practices are followed.
7.
Participates in unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
8.
Prepares a wide variety of written materials and electronic financial information (e.g. reports, transmittals, letters, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing reference, conveying information, and complying with established financial, legal and/or administrative requirements.
9.
Processes a wide variety of financial information for the purpose of updating and distributing information, authorizing for action and/or complying with established accounting practices.
10.
Provides orientation and support to other departmental personnel regarding procedures and program requirements for the purpose of ensuring efficient processing in compliance within district policy and established regulatory guidelines.
11.
Reconciles a wide variety of financial data for the purpose of maintaining accurate account balances and ensuring compliance with established accounting practices.
12.
Researches discrepancies of financial information and/or documentation (e.g. purchase orders, invoices, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the accuracy and adhering to established procedures prior to processing.
13.
Responds to inquiries from a wide variety of sources (e.g. district employees, vendors, auditors, etc.) for the purpose of facilitating communication and/or providing guidance among several parties; providing information and/or referral for addressing inquiry.
14.
Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
