Primary Function: The job of School Nutrition Area Manager is done for the purpose/s of providing training and technical support for cafeteria managers in the areas of managerial skills, regulatory procedures, accountability, computer applications, employee training, scheduling assignments, cafeteria staff supervision, equipment operation, and evaluation of cafeteria staff. Work involves strict adherence to nutrition, sanitation, and safety standards and economic use of food and supplies.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Educational Level:
High School Diploma/GED; Successful completion of Manager Pathway; A minimum of 12 hours of annual continuing education/training in addition to the food safety training required in the first year of employment.
2. Certification/License Required:
Must be ServSafe Certified or equivalent; Valid Driver’s License
3. Experience:
Completion of a minimum three years successful experience as Food Service Manager, Food Service Assistant Manager, Food Service Manager Trainee or comparable experience; Must meet minimum training requirements for School Nutrition Manager as required by Georgia State Standards

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1.
Supervises and instructs assigned cafeteria personnel in maintaining nutrition and sanitation standards, food and labor cost control, reports and records (e.g. goal setting and coaching; disciplinary actions; employee relations;
etc.) for the purpose of administering the program in accordance with federal/state regulations
2.
Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
3.
Assesses equipment and supply needs (e.g. provides training for proper use of equipment, including conservation of energy; serves as potential point of contact for refrigeration emergencies, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining an adequate inventory to provide nutritional services efficiently and within budget guidelines.
4.
Attends meetings (e.g. School Nutrition Association; staff meetings, etc.) for the purpose of obtaining and/or providing information and addressing issues.
5.
Conducts a variety of operations reviews at designated sites (e.g. organization and efficiency of cafeteria operation, etc.) for the purpose of meeting federal, state and local guidelines
6.
Coordinates substitute employee schedules (e.g. dispatches substitutes to cover school staff vacancies and absences, etc.) for the purpose of providing coverage for sites as needed.
7.
Oversees the preparation, cooking and serving of food and beverage items at assigned sites (e.g. developing work schedules to achieve maximum efficiency timing meal production with meal period scheduling, etc.) for the purpose of providing for food service that meets mandated nutritional requirements within budget and in accordance with health standards.
8.
Performs functions of other positions within area of responsibility for the purpose of ensuring adequate coverage of food service operations.
9.
Prepares documentation (e.g. information to leadership regarding meal period scheduling, ordering procedures, cash handling procedures, free and reduced-price meal accountability, and equipment operation, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
10.
Processes payroll information (e.g. time sheets, withholding information, leave requests, etc.) for the purpose of updating information and/or authorizing timely payments.
11.
Promotes food service operations and special events (e.g. community events, summer programs, etc.) for the purpose of expanding services and developing nutrition education for students.
12.
Provides training for safe food handling (e.g. food preparation, health standards, sanitation methods, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring compliance with food service program requirements.
13.
Reconciles point- of- sale transactions (e.g. meal counts, monies collected, etc.) for the purpose of balancing accounts and adhering to established accounting practices.
14.
Promote menu compliance in accordance with USDA guidelines for the purpose of meeting students' mandated daily nutritional requirements.
15.
Performs Functions of other related duties within area of responsibility for the purpose of ensuring the efficient, effective functioning of the work unit.
