Reporting to the Manager of Exhibition Design, the Exhibition Designer supports the museum’s design and planning efforts. The Exhibition Designer works onsite at the museum campus. The Exhibition Designer will develop exhibition designs, participate in planning meetings, and contribute towards LACMA’s permanent collection reinstallation project.

Responsibilities:

  • Designs temporary gallery exhibitions and permanent collection installations, in tandem with lighting and graphic design.
  • Develops design criteria with curatorial and exhibition staff. 
  • Collaborates with audio/visual consultants. 
  • Reviews construction feasibility with construction staff. 
  • Consults with various Museum departments outside of Exhibition Design & Production, contractors, and venues, including Graphic Design, Facilities, Conservation, Art Preparation & Installation, and many others.
  • Participates in regular meetings with LACMA’s Exhibition Design & Production team (Exhibition Design, Gallery Construction, Gallery Media), as well as larger planning meetings supporting the museum’s extensive visitor programming goals.

 

Benefits:

  • The expected hourly rate for this Los Angeles, CA based position is $29.00-$30.00, subject to change, and the position is eligible for LACMA’s comprehensive. benefits package, including pension plan.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in related field.
  • A professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch).
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • Experience in architectural drawing and detailing, interior space planning, materials specifying, and fixture design.
  • Advanced computer experience in professional architectural software, including AutoCAD, Revit, and Rhino is essential.
  • Discretion in the handling of confidential materials
