Summary

The Membership Manager supports the mission of The Museum of Flight by spearheading membership growth and retention. This role develops and implements strategic initiatives, leverages proven constituent management skills, provides great customer service, and fosters cross-departmental collaboration. The Manager also oversees membership operations and staff.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute comprehensive membership acquisition and retention strategies to achieve short- and long-term target goals.
  • In partnership with the Director of Individual Giving, design membership revenue goals to integrate, be reflective of, and support the Museum’s multi-year comprehensive fundraising campaign.
  • Supervise membership staff members through training, coaching, and providing feedback that fosters a collaborative and positive team environment.
  • In partnership with the Director of Individual Giving, analyze member data and identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure that Members are a target audience of the overall Museum growth strategy and ensure Member needs are being considered during decision making processes.
  • Develop and implement an engaging Membership communication plan including digital, direct mail, and in-person touch points.
  • Manage and execute member events from conception through evaluation that engages members, builds loyalty, and increases member retention.
  • Manage and oversee the timely processing of all memberships; applications, updates, batches, printing cards, and handling of special requests, and beyond.
  • Ensure exceptional customer service for all Museum members; supporting membership staff and responding to escalated or complex inquiries to resolve issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist in the development and oversight of the department budget and the efficient allocation of resources.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred, or commensurate work experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressive work experience in fundraising, membership, and/or marketing sectors.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience supervising staff or volunteers.
  • Relevant internal Museum service may be considered in lieu of minimum years of experience.
  • Experience in a public attraction, museum, or not-for-profit venue or environment.

Knowledge

  • Deep knowledge of cultural institutions/organization membership strategies and processes.
  • Proficient knowledge of contemporary fundraising and development strategies within diverse constituent populations.
  • Practical knowledge and understanding of donor databases. Raiser’s Edge and HubSpot platforms preferred.

Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 including Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.

Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement a detail-oriented task plan and successful in project management.
  • Comfortable working independently as well as part of a team, comfortable working with and leading a diverse population.
  • Able to communicate effectively with respect in both positive and negative situations with strong emphasis on communication to large, diverse groups.

Work Environment

  • Schedule is set by the manager; position works primarily Monday through Friday with flexibility for evening and variable hours based on Museum need.
  • Occasional local and out of area travel may be expected.

  • On-site attendance is essential to perform some of the duties of this position.
  • Works in a normal office environment, including prolonged periods of sitting and repetitive wrist and arm movement.
  • The ability to focus, bend, carry, reach to the side, front and overhead, push, pull, walk, stand, twist and squat, grab, squeeze are repetitive physical requirements of this position.
  • Occasionally required to lift to 25 lbs. with or without assistance.
  • Ability to occasionally move through physical Museum campus spaces including extended periods of standing.

Paid-Time Off

Our paid time-off plans include 2 weeks of accrued sick leave and 2 weeks of vacation (80 hours each) per year, 10 paid holidays, and 2 floating holidays.


Compensation

The hourly range for this position is $30.00 - $41.00 depending on experience.

Should you receive an offer, please expect that it can fall anywhere within this range. A multitude of factors will determine a fair salary based on the following: scope of role within the organization, years of relevant experience, specific skills, and evaluation of capability to execute in role successfully (among other critical factors).
