Position Overview:
The Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience, in New Orleans, is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented fundraising professional to join its full-time staff as Membership & Grants Manager. Working closely with the Director of Development and the Executive Director, this individual will help to grow the Museum’s membership program, increase the Museum’s foundation, government, and corporate grant acquisitions, and generally support fundraising operations. This position reports to the Director of Development.
A successful candidate will have knowledge and experience in fundraising, exceptional multi-tasking skills, an interest in Southern Jewish history and culture, and the desire to work with a small, diverse team of museum professionals.'
Duties and Responsibilities:
Membership
- Develop ambitious, yet realistic goals and benchmarks for successful annual membership campaigns; produce regular reports for Executive Director and Board of Directors showing progress towards goals
- Produce special membership events and membership benefits
- Develop best practices for membership retention and upgrading; manage stewardship and communication with members; manage the membership database
- Generate membership communication, including website updates, email marketing, social media engagement, and other materials
Grants
- Research and identify corporate, foundation, and government grant opportunities
- Maintain calendar of grant deadlines; prioritize grant submission strategy
- Prepare grant applications and ensure regular reporting and stewardship
Fundraising
- Assist Director of Development and Executive Director in planning fundraising trips
- Regularly update the donor database, support stewardship and communication with donors
- Produce regular reports for Director of Development showing dollar and donor results
- Interact with prospects and donors in a professional environment
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years working in membership programs or fundraising or transferable experience
- Strong computer skills and knowledge of data management software, e.g. DonorPerfect or its equivalent and/or demonstrated ability to become proficient
- Demonstrated ability to appropriately prioritize and multitask across multiple responsibilities while meeting deadlines
- Self-motivated and goal-oriented
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include some weekends, holidays and special events
- Strong knowledge of and interest in Jewish history and culture
Compensation:
This is a full-time, on-site position with a competitive salary and benefits package.
