What are the responsibilities and job description for the Contemporary Protestant Worship Leader Pianist, Guitarist or Keyboardist position at Music Ministry International?
The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:
1. Title. Musician for the Protestant Worship Community, here in called “Musician,” consults, coordinates with and is monitored by the Resources and Requirements Lead Protestant Chaplain or Designee.
2. Scope of Responsibilities. The Musician provides music services for the Protestant Worship Service at Buckley Space Force Base, Colorado. Musician shall provide labor and management to support the responsibilities outlined in this PWS.
3. Purpose. The purpose of this contract is for the musician to lead contemporary worship for the Protestant service, fostering connection among the congregation and setting an atmosphere conducive to congregational worship. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: playing, singing, practicing and scheduling music for Protestant worship in collaboration with the Lead Protestant Chaplain.
4. Qualifications. The Musician shall:
4.1. Have a 2 or more years of college in music performance (or related field), or equivalent years of experience leading contemporary worship in a chapel/church setting. The musician must have experience and knowledge playing contemporary Protestant
4.2. Provide a written theology of worship statement by each candidate for Musician (outlining personal understanding/convictions pertaining to worship).
4.3. Demonstrate skills in singing vocals and playing at least one (1) of the following instruments: acoustic guitar, piano and/or keyboard. Additionally, must be able to read music for appropriate instrument.
4.4. Demonstrate skills in planning and coordinating praise/contemporary music support in keeping with the type of worship being celebrated, in coordination with the Protestant Parish Pastor.
4.5. Furnish a resume including academic and work-related references. These references will be submitted and checked by the Lead Protestant Chaplain. In addition, the Musician must submit a sample video of leading worship before being approved.
4.6. Possess the ability to develop and maintain a healthy and positive relationships with chapel staff, musicians, and volunteers. Demonstrate ability to work with participants and volunteers from different denominations or faith groups (for ecumenical functions). The Musician will be responsible for helping recruit and lead volunteer singers and/or musicians for contemporary Protestant worship. Must show patience with different levels of musical talent from volunteers.
4.7. Demonstrate ability to operate and troubleshoot a multi-channel sound board, and to set up and tear down basic music/sound equipment, including but not limited to: microphones, amplifiers, monitors, and associated cables.
4.8. Demonstrate ability to work unsupervised in a fluid and diverse environment. Possess an ability to maintain healthy, functional interpersonal relationships with co-workers and customers. Maintain professional standards of conduct. Submit a proposal for this contract to interview and audition for the Lead Protestant Chaplain and designee.
4.9. Demonstrate fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English, in order to perform all responsibilities outlined within the PWS.
4.10. Demonstrate ability to use projectors and projection software (e.g., PowerPoint, ProPresenter, or similar) to create, edit, and display song slides showing song lyrics for worship.
5.0. Specific Responsibilities. Musician shall:
5.1. Provide contemporary worship leader services (including singing, playing music and leading the congregation in signing worship music) for Protestant worship services at Buckley Chapel, Buckley Space Force Base, Colorado.
5.2. Tailor music to meet the worship needs of the Protestant congregation, in collaboration with the Protestant Parish Pastor assigned to lead the service.
5.3. Meet weekly with the Protestant Parish Pastor to plan and coordinate music and order of service for Protestant Worship.
5.4. Be responsible for creating or ensuring current/updated song lyrics for all worship songs at Protestant worship service, under the direction of the Protestant Parish Pastor. Responsibilities include recruiting and training volunteers to manage worship slides.
5.5. Provide services for a minimum of 1 rehearsal (not including Sunday mornings) and 1 worship service each week.
5.6. Arrive prior to the worship service to set up all musical equipment and then lead a 30-minute rehearsal with the worship team prior to the worship service start time. Musician will remain until all service clean-up has been accomplished.
5.6.1. Be in place on stage, ready to start on time with the conducting/performing of appropriate music for the service, as planned with the Protestant Parish Pastor.
5.6.2. Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to scheduled pre-service rehearsal to set up and coordinate with other musicians/singers and other volunteers.
5.7. Coordinate with worship team (which may include volunteers, staff or other musicians) and Protestant Parish Pastor the upcoming week’s worship selection by 1600 Wednesday, providing Christian Copyright License Incorporate (CCLI) song sheets to the musicians along with a sample video clip of the arrangement for personal review prior to the group practice. In addition, the Musician shall report all songs to CCLI as necessary.
5.8. Adapt performances and rehearsals to altered worship service content and adjusted times. It is understood that service times and content have the potential to change due to changing needs of the worship community and/or assigned Protestant Parish Pastor. Service times may also be impacted by weather delays.
5.9. Have custodial responsibility for musical equipment and supplies used for his/her work, such as songbooks, sheet music, etc., ensuring each is returned to its proper lo
5.10. Assume responsibility for restoring the performance and rehearsal areas to a neat and orderly condition after each performance or rehearsal. All music equipment and supplies shall be displayed in a neat and orderly fashion. The Musician shall not depart the area until the music equipment and supplies are returned to their original position.
5.11. Assume responsibility in conservation of energy (turning off all lights, equipment, etc.) before leaving any service, rehearsal or special event. In addition, the Musician will ensure the building is locked and secured before leaving.
5.12. Assist the Lead Protestant Chaplain or their designee in developing the following regarding the Musician programs, as appropriate: annual calendar of events, Chapel Tithes and Offerings budget requirements, appropriated funds requirements, and volunteer training requirements.
5.13. Coordinate all support requirements with the Lead Protestant Chaplain or their designated representative.
5.14. Conduct themselves in a professional and business-like manner, always maintaining a professional appearance. The Lead Protestant Chaplain will resolve questions on appropriate appearance.
5.15. Perform duties at the Buckley Chapel, located at 16401 E. A-Basin Ave, Buckley SFB, CO 80011. Contract services will be performed at this location unless otherwise directed or approved by the Lead Protestant Chaplain.
5.16. Meet with the Protestant Parish Pastor each month to discuss/review the status of the program and exchange feedback on the current status and future direction of the program.
5.17. Ensure the physical security of all U.S. Government property and facilities under control. Ensure that facilities and storage areas are secured according to chapel facility procedures.
5.18. Not engage in the unauthorized duplication of copyrighted materials by photocopying or any other means that would expose the Government to liability for penalties under existing or future copyright laws. SBD 2/HC does maintain a Christian copyright license (CCLI). Understanding the limits of that license and adherence to the law is the Musician’s responsibility.
5.19. Return any and all U.S. Government owned music scores, property and equipment obtained in the performance of the required duties following the last service provided under the contract.
6. Estimated Number of Sessions: This position will require no more than 114, sessions during the contract period. These sessions normally will consist of:
(52) Worship services – Currently scheduled at 11:00 AM Sunday mornings
(52) Weekly rehearsals – Time TBD depending on Chapel and Musician availability
(5) Special service performances
a. Christmas Eve
b. Good Friday
c. Special Praise nights (as scheduled by the Protestant Parish Past0r and coordinated at least 14 days in advance)
