To learn more about Bellingham, please visit: http://www.bellingham.org General Description of Work   Whatcom Community College welcomes applications for an Applied Music instructor in Jazz Guitar for spring, summer or fall quarter 2025. Students will be assigned as needed on a quarterly basis. The successful candidate will possess:An active performing career in jazz/commercial styles.Strong skills as an improviser.Experience teaching jazz guitar at a collegiate level.Student-centered, inclusive pedagogy and teaching methods.Collaborative communication practices with students and colleagues. Responsibilities   Prepare and implement curriculum for MUSC 150 and MUSC 250 Applied Music guitar students, focused on preparation for university-level transfer auditions.Communicate with Discipline Lead and colleagues in preparation for quarterly student performances.Read and respond to emails from students, faculty and staff. Qualifications   Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in music with experience teaching collegiate-level jazz guitar.Evidence of an active performing career in jazz and commercial styles.Preferred QualificationsMaster's degree in music.Five or more years' experience teaching collegiate-level jazz guitar.Experience performing as both soloist and ensemble artist in multiple jazz and commercial styles and genres.Demonstrated commitment to student-centered instruction.Record of successful recruitment and retention of students.Demonstrated history of collaboration with colleagues.  Salary   Salary: $770 per student for spring quarter, 2025Benefit Package: Accrues a percentage of 7 hours (equal to the percentage of workload) per month of sick leave (ex. 50% quarterly employment contract x 7 hrs for full-time = 3.5 hrs per month for that quarter).Start Date:  Spring, summer or fall quarter 2025.Application Due Date:  For guaranteed consideration, application packets should be received by Monday, March 17th, 2025 at 5:00 pm.
