POSITION TITLE: Community Navigator
REPORTS TO: Community Resources Director
RELATES CLOSELY WITH: Men's Shelter Team Members
Shelter Guests
Various Human Service Organizations
Volunteers
As a team member of Muskegon Rescue Mission, we implement and live out our mission of demonstrating and proclaiming God’s love to the less fortunate and homeless people in West Michigan. We do this by caring for and loving the individual as Christ would. We share the Good News of Christ’s love and what He has done for us on the cross.
RESPONSIBLE FOR:
- Sharing your faith in Jesus Christ and praying with shelter guests, volunteers and co-workers as opportunities arise.
- Performing initial interview and assessment of each shelter guest, maintaining strict confidentiality.
- Maintaining the Women’s Money Management Program and engaging guest participation.
- Performing follow-up contact with guests.
- Making guest referrals for shelter instruction, as well as to community agencies.
- Maintaining accurate, current files and records for all shelter guests.
- Overseeing shelter guest behavior and addressing discipline, correction and counseling as needed.
- Maintaining beneficial relationships with other community agencies.
- Any other tasks assigned by supervisor.
PRIMARY STRENGTHS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Shall be a mature born-again Christian and be in fellowship with a local church.
- Must provide a clear biblical testimony of a personal experience of receiving by faith the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior and give evidence of His presence in daily living. Must desire to serve the Lord in the ministry of rescue.
- Shall subscribe to the by-laws and statement of faith of the organization.
- BSW or bachelors in Family Life Education preferred.
- Excellent verbal, written and time management skills.
- Be proficient in MS Word, Excel, and internet use.
- Be well organized.
- Ability to work with people of diverse populations and backgrounds as well as other agencies, volunteers, guests and team members.
GENERAL INFORMATION:
- Full-time hourly position
- Hours: 40/week
- Flexibility in hours will be necessary at times to meet staffing needs.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
