The Entry Level Cook 1 is a culinary position at The Battery that requires basic cooking skills or related experience and good communication skills. This is typically a production position that requires total supervision and training. The primary objective of the Cook 1 position is to learn how to work in every area of the kitchen. In order to accomplish this, a Cook 1 may rotate and assist throughout the kitchen. Working as a Cook 1 involves learning a wide variety of different skills in a short amount of time and practicing those skills by implementing them in actual tasks throughout the kitchen.
Essential Duties
- Perform many basic tasks of food preparation and organization in the kitchen.
- Effectively communicate with other members of the kitchen staff.
- Gracefully receive constructive criticism as well as effectively carry out orders.
- Follow the prep list created by chefs to plan duties
- Ensure all food and other items are stored properly
- Comply with nutrition and sanitation guidelines
- Perform other kitchen duties as assigned
- Report to duty punctually, wearing the correct uniform.
- Ensure that a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness is maintained by following cleaning routines and through ongoing diligence during the shift and in set-up and clean down procedures.
- Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat etc.
- Undertake basic cooking duties such as reducing sauces, parboiling food etc.
- Observe the company’s fire plan and health safety policy.
- Observe the rules and procedure of the company.
- Carry out any other reasonable duty that may be requested by a manager.
