Role and Responsibilities
As an Industrial Sewing Machine Operator at Fortner, you’ll play a vital role in bringing our custom furniture designs to life. You’ll operate and maintain industrial sewing machines, ensuring every stitch meets our high-quality standards. Your work will involve:
- Preparing for Success: Review orders with your supervisor and gather all necessary materials and supplies before starting.
- Machine Operation: Start and test sewing machines at the beginning of each shift, addressing any discrepancies promptly.
- Precision Sewing: Draw threads through needles, adjust machine settings, and regulate stitching speeds to match project requirements.
- Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Replace and rethread needles, address missing stitches or defects, and notify supervisors of any issues.
- Finishing Touches: Attach buttons, grips, hooks, tape, trim, and fasteners according to work orders. Trim excess materials for a polished finish.
- Quality Assurance: Examine finished covers for compliance with design and merchandising instructions. Ensure appropriate tags are attached.
- Support Shop Success: Maintain Fortner’s quality standards, uphold the integrity of each design, and actively seek opportunities to improve skills and processes.
Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Strong understanding of materials, tools, equipment, and construction techniques used in custom furniture manufacturing.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and communication skills.
- Strong teamwork and positive attitude.
- Punctuality and good attendance are essential.
