Job Summary
The HIPster Support Specialist is an AmeriCorps member that works closely with My Possibilities (MP) staff to provide Individual Support and Services, which offers continued education, health and wellness programming, respite activities, and vocational training to adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD). The AmeriCorps member will assist with a variety of tasks to ensure that the program runs smoothly and that HIPsters (participants) receive high-quality services in a safe and supportive environment.
Essential Functions:
- Assist with Community-Based Instruction (CBI) activities by supporting HIPsters in community settings.
- Provide educational programming to Hipsters in the classroom setting that includes social-emotional development, life skills, and independent living skills.
- Assist Hipsters during lunchtime needs, which may include providing supplies, assisting with food heating and preparation, schedules, safety, and dining area monitoring.
- Conduct respite and after-hours programming, including setup, supervision, and clean-up.
- Participate in AmeriCorps team meetings, training, and service projects.
- Document HIPster progress and maintain accurate records in accordance with MP policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years or older.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Passion for working with adults with IDD.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and priorities.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks as needed.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the U.S.
This location requires a total service commitment of 306 hours.
Benefits include
Living Allowance of $3,000.00; paid out biweekly ($500.0)
