Seeking compassionate and dedicated individuals to provide 1:1 support for a client living with developmental disabilities, behavioral health challenges, and autism spectrum disorder. The ideal candidate will help ensure safety, emotional well-being, and personal growth by assisting with daily living tasks, promoting independence, and supporting behavioral needs in alignment with a detailed care plan.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervision and Safety:
- Maintain 24/7 1:1 supervision:
- Visual supervision during the day.
- Auditory checks with visual confirmation during awake hours at night.
- On-Site On-Call (OSOC) presence during sleeping hours.
- Support pedestrian and parking lot safety with hand-holding or close proximity.
- Ensure proper use of the seatbelt buckle guard during vehicle trips exceeding 5 miles.
- Daily Living Support:
- Assist with personal hygiene routines, such as washing hair and brushing teeth.
- Guide through household chores, including laundry, trash disposal, dishwashing, sweeping, and vacuuming.
- Encourage healthy eating habits and physical activities.
- Behavioral and Emotional Support:
- Monitor and redirect self-injurious behaviors (SIB) and physical aggression.
- Use calming techniques such as deep breathing and verbal reassurance.
- Reinforce positive behaviors with praise and encouragement.
- Document behavioral incidents and responses for team review.
- Communication and Advocacy:
- Communicate in calm, clear tones using simple directives and positive reinforcement.
- Offer choices and encourage decision-making while respecting preferences.
- Prepare for transitions and changes using visual aids, verbal reminders, and social stories.
- Community Integration:
- Transport the client to community outings, appointments, and preferred activities like walks, park visits, or dining.
- Support safe engagement in social activities.
- Medical Management:
- Administer medications per policy (must be med-certified).
- Accompany the client to medical appointments and communicate their needs to healthcare providers.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
- Certification in Safe Crisis Management (SCM) or willingness to obtain SCM training.
- Previous experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, behavioral challenges, or mental health conditions.
- Strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
- Patient, empathetic, and calm under pressure.
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
