Position Title: Laboratory Manager
Location: Wrangell, AK
Shift: Days full time
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate the quality of laboratory services, personnel, and equipment.
- Relate laboratory services to medical staff and patients.
- Assess laboratory needs and explore methods to meet utilization.
- Ensure compliance with all internal policies and external regulatory agencies such as HIPAA, JC, CLIA, COLA, and OSHA.
- Serve as the Administrator for the ELMC Harvest LIS and co-administrator of the consortium-wide Copia LIS.
- Maintain lab policy and procedure manuals.
- Plan, implement, coordinate, review, and ensure compliance with all laboratory quality control, proficiency testing, quality assurance, safety, accreditation, and preventive maintenance programs.
- Troubleshoot and resolve instrument and laboratory system failures.
- Perform specimen collection and lab testing in all areas of the clinical laboratory.
- Routinely review patient reports to ensure accuracy.
- Assess and monitor operational costs and develop the laboratory budget.
- Coordinate recruitment, retention, and personnel actions.
- Develop and monitor ongoing continuing education for lab and nursing personnel performing waived testing.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position includes supervisory responsibilities over laboratory staff.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or related sciences.
- National laboratory certification (ASCP or equivalent).
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of clinical laboratory and healthcare regulations.
- Proficiency in laboratory sciences and understanding of other departmental processes.
- Competent phlebotomy and technical skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Advanced computer use skills.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Analytical thinking and troubleshooting abilities.
- Capability to lead, manage, and motivate personnel.
