The NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF) is the country’s first and foremost civil and human rights law organization. Founded in 1940 under the leadership of Thurgood Marshall, who subsequently became the first Black U.S. Supreme Court Justice, LDF was launched at a time when the nation’s aspirations for equality and due process of law were stifled by widespread state-sponsored racial inequality. The Media Relations Strategist works under the guidance of the Director of Media Relations to develop and execute strategies to support the public education and narrative shaping mission of LDF; increase brand awareness and ensure policies and procedures support the achievement of desired media goals. They promote LDF’s legal, policy, research, and advocacy work in print, radio, television and online outlets. They coordinate closely with all members of the Communications Department, including the Editorial, Digital, Original Content, and Marketing and Brand teams as well as LDF litigation, policy, organizing, strategic initiatives and Thurgood Marshall Institute staff as necessary.
LDF operates in a hybrid work environment where employees are expected to be in the office a minimum of two days per week, unless otherwise indicated.

Responsibilities
- Develop, execute and track comprehensive media strategies across various media channels to reach a variety of LDF audiences under the guidance of the Director of Media Relations. Research and stay up-to-date on LDF program areas; trends and changes in media assumption.
- Pitch and place editorials, profiles, and other LDF related content; offer LDF spokespeople to media outlets on a regular basis; monitor publications, social media and other sources for relevant and timely stories and new press contacts.
- Distribute press releases, media advisories and other LDF materials primarily via Cision.
- Create formal media/press plans for events, reports, project launches, coordinate press conference logistics, schedule and coordinate media interviews.
- Attend regular meetings within assigned areas of portfolio such as specific LDF campaigns, cases or policy initiatives.
- Manage daily clip reports and other media-related reports as necessary
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Preferred fields: Communications, Media Relations/PR, Political Science, Journalism, English.
- At least 5 years in media relations.
- Ideal experience with not-for-profits, law firms, or marketing agencies.
