Are you an experienced attorney with a strong passion for environmental, health, and safety regulations, and a commitment to advocating for the automotive and truck dealership industry? The National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) is seeking a Senior Director, Regulatory Affairs (Environment & Safety) to guide and influence the future of environmental and safety regulations, ensuring our members’ voices are heard in critical conversations with federal agencies.

This full-time position offers a dynamic, collaborative work environment, competitive salary, and a comprehensive benefits package. Some travel will be required, comprising up to 20% of the role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead advocacy efforts for NADA and ATD members on environmental, emissions, and safety issues at the federal level.
  • Analyze rules and regulations from agencies like the EPA, DOT, NHTSA, CARB, and FMCSA to protect dealership interests.
  • Educate members and state associations on regulatory changes and compliance.
  • Serve as subject-matter expert on environmental, health, and safety laws impacting automobile and truck dealers.
  • Manage NADA’s relationship with federal agencies to advocate for the industry.
  • Prepare written comments, testimony, and communications for federal agencies on regulatory matters.
  • Collaborate with the Legislative Office on policy matters and draft testimony for congressional hearings.
  • Build and maintain relationships with auto manufacturers, industry reps, and legal professionals.
  • Oversee litigation efforts and manage outside attorneys on regulatory issues.
  • Conduct research and support educational outreach programs to maintain industry expertise and compliance.

Required Qualifications:

  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school with strong academic standing.
  • Minimum 10 years of attorney experience with significant responsibility in regulatory affairs, with a focus on environment, health, and safety.
  • Deep knowledge of the federal regulatory process, preferably as it pertains to the automotive and transportation industries.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex regulations and communicate effectively with members and stakeholders.
  • Strong written, verbal, and analytical skills with the ability to prepare clear and persuasive materials.
  • Membership in good standing with the bar of at least one U.S. state or the District of Columbia.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively, demonstrating initiative and leadership.
  • Experience in the automotive industry or trade associations is a plus.
