Who We Are Looking For:
Reporting to the Director of Communications and Engagement, the Healthcare Engagement Manager is a vital member of our team, tasked with advancing NAMI Chicago’s mission by raising awareness of our Helpline and fostering connections with healthcare providers and organizations such as safety net hospitals, federally qualified health centers, behavioral health clinics, private medical practices, hospital systems, and community-based healthcare settings. In this role, you will oversee a team of engagement and education specialists who deliver mental health and wellness trainings tailored to healthcare professionals while building strong, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A deep understanding of the healthcare system in Chicago and Cook County
- Strong communication and project management skills.
- Experience managing remote teams.
- A passion for advancing mental health equity and addressing disparities in underserved communities.
Essential Responsibilities:
Engagement:
- Lead efforts to create partnerships, manage relationships, provide trainings, and promote the NAMI Chicago Helpline among healthcare providers and patients, ensuring they are informed about its services and benefits.
- Represent NAMI Chicago at relevant public meetings, healthcare coalitions, and professional events to further spread the mission of NAMI Chicago.
- Plan and execute events focused on mental health education and awareness.
- Oversee the distribution of materials and staffing for healthcare-focused events.
Management:
- Supervise and support a team of two healthcare engagement and education specialists, providing day-to-day guidance and fostering a collaborative work environment.
- Ensure staff document their activities and hold them accountable for goals and expectations for their role.
- Track and report on engagement metrics, providing monthly reports on resource distribution and new partnerships, as well as insights for continuous improvement.
- Manage department resources effectively, including tracking expenses and maintaining an organized workflow.
Strategic Development:
- Develop a comprehensive engagement strategy to promote NAMI Chicago’s Helpline in healthcare settings.
- Assist in the design and implementation of training programs tailored to the needs of healthcare professionals with focus on serious mental illness, crisis intervention, de-escalation, and self-care.
- Support the integration of the Helpline into healthcare practice, contributing ideas for policy and process improvements.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of community engagement strategies, particularly within the healthcare sector.
- Awareness of the healthcare system in Chicago and Cook County and the unique challenges faced by healthcare providers in addressing mental health needs.
- Understanding of how to measure and evaluate the impact of engagement and training efforts.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with experience in guiding and motivating a team to achieve outreach and engagement goals.
- Proficiency in developing and facilitating training sessions that are engaging, informative, and tailored to diverse audiences.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex mental health concepts clearly and effectively.
- Collaborative skills, with the ability to work effectively with healthcare providers, team members, and external partners.

Requirements
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, public health, healthcare administration, education, or a related field.
- Experience:
- At least 5 years of experience in healthcare outreach, community engagement, mental health services, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory or management role, with a focus on leading teams and overseeing outreach or engagement initiatives.
- Preferred but Not Required:
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Experience working with individuals living with mental illness.
- Familiarity with Chicago and Cook County’s diverse communities.
- Familiarity with healthcare and hospital systems in Chicago and Cook County.
- Experience with database management or network development in the healthcare sector.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word), CRM tools (e.g. Bloomerang), data visualization platforms (e.g. Tableau), and other software routinely used by NAMI Chicago.
