What are the responsibilities and job description for the NAMI Northeast Region PA Community Awareness and Volunteer Coordinator position at NAMI Northeast Region PA?
The NAMI Northeast Region PA Community Awareness and Volunteer Coordinator works collaboratively with the Executive Director, staff and volunteers to identify the community awareness needs and goals of NAMI Northeast Region PA and to plan, support and conduct community outreach and education programs and activities to provide information about NAMI NEPA programs and services.
This position will represent the organization in the community, identify community partners and cultivate relationships with behavioral health, education, healthcare, social services, law enforcement, justice system, social, cultural, business and other organizations.
The CAVC will also be responsible for identification, recruitment and support of volunteers to facilitate NAMI support and education programs and other activities. This position will work closely with the NAMI NEPA Program Services Leader to understand organization program needs as well as volunteer needs including best fit, training and supports.
Qualifications
- Leadership experience and organizational skills such as training and coordinating volunteers or teams and problem solving
- Ability to respect, relate to and represent the interests of persons with mental illness and their family members , and to respect the values, norms and customs of diverse populations and cultures
- Experience with or knowledge of and willingness to make a strong commitment to NAMI’s vision, mission and values
- Strong communication skills including oral and written; ability to express self clearly, effectively and concisely
- Basic computer proficiency in Microsoft Office365 including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook and Zoom.
- Certification (eligible for certification) to lead and/or provide training for NAMI Signature Programs including ability to pass criminal/FBI & Child Abuse background check
- Ability and willingness to travel throughout service area, with travel reimbursement
- Willingness to expand knowledge and skill base as needed to perform job duties
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Plan, facilitate and identify opportunities for outreach activities including community education events/activities and other opportunities; collaborates with other NAMI NEPA team members on special events and media communications as needed.
- Coordinate with team members to schedule activities/presentations and anticipate and provide needed equipment/materials.
- Coordinate with the Operations Assistant to order and prepare presentation materials including evaluations, and additional handouts for presentations.
- Disseminate and collect presentation evaluations. Compile and report to necessary team members.
- Work with the NAMI NEPA team to help develop a yearly program and activity calendar.
- Identify, recruit, interview and qualify volunteers.
- Provide ongoing support to ensure volunteers’ successful participation in all aspects of NAMI NEPA programs.
- Works with other team members to collect and maintain accurate, timely program data and reports necessary for the proficient administration of NAMI NEPA initiatives.
- Facilitate and assist with outreach/other organization efforts to serve targeted and diverse populations, to include minority communities, special populations, faith/spiritual communities etc. as needed.
Other Duties as Needed
- Answer information/helpline calls and respond to email requests as needed.
- Assist as needed with NAMI NEPA annual events, special events and fundraising projects as needed.
- Assumes additional responsibilities and performs special projects and/or duties as needed or directed by Executive Director
Preferred Qualifications/Experience:
- Associates degree or equivalent work experience
- Experience with NAMI is an advantage, completion of a NAMI Signature Program preferred
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15 – 20 per week
