Job Description
The Mechanical EIT will report to the department manager and function as a member of the mechanical engineering department. The EIT will execute tasks on a project under the direction of a PE in the department. The EIT will have a variety of tasks from different projects at any one time and will be expected to balance efforts as needed to meet the delegated responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Under direct supervision, work on a variety of mechanical engineering projects
- Apply standard engineering techniques, standards and criteria
- Use engineering judgment and make minor adaptations as required for task completion.
- Under direct supervision, perform or assist in performing studies, calculation, designs, and the preparation of reports, plans and specifications.
- Creating drawings and construction documents
- Tasks could include electrical and mechanical plans, specifications, equipment selections and details.
- Traveling to job sites to gather information for projects will be necessary. There may be approximately (6) week-long trips in a year, but the actual quantity and duration will vary based on project needs
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification required / Passing Fundamentals of Engineering exam
- Must be proficient with AutoCAD computer assisted drafting software
- Advanced skillset with Microsoft Word and Excel required.
- Effectively plans work in areas of responsibility
- Must be physically able to work long hours and carry heavy loads.
- Must be able to work in inclement weather in an arctic environment.
- A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy.
Preferred Requirements
- (1) year of experience is preferred
- Experience in performing design calculations and preparing equipment or material specifications
- Experience preparing drawings of mechanical designsdesirable
- Experience in industrial, oil and gas facility design desirable
- Experience working in remote areas of Alaska.
- Experience preparing process flow diagrams and process and instrumentation diagrams desirable
- Working knowledge of applicable mechanical design codes and arctic design desirable
- Experience with power generation and power distribution systems desirable
- Experience with 3D modeling software such as Building Information Management (BIM) Revit software or SolidWorks is advantageous.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Weather: Typical indoor office workplace setting but will be times when work is required outdoors.
Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Description of environment: Frequently inside in standard office setting. Also, occasionally required to be outside at construction/project sites.
Physical requirements: Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
Travel: Employee will travel based on project needs and travel could be to remote areas for performance of tasks at that location. Employee may be required to use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to small airplanes, snow machines, boats, and ATVs.
