Overview
The Cost Accountant is responsible for cost accounting analyses comparing estimated costs to actual costs and prepares a variety of related budget reports.
Job Responsibilities
- Updates inventory balance report, inventory valuation & rate (FIFO); daily, weekly, monthly.
- Data analysis of discrepancies and variances to determine root causes, identifying risks and outcomes.
- Review and analyze variances between perpetual and book to determine root causes.
- Determines fixed costs such as salaries, rent, and insurance.
- Forecasts, plans, and records variable costs (purchases of raw material, labor, and operation costs).
- Manages regular cycle counts, conducting field audits.
- Performs inventory month-end and year-end closings with assistance.
- Review and update current inventory and the costing systems, making recommendations for improvements.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration required.
- At least two years of experience in cost accounting are required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, as well as various accounting software.
- Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
- Must possess a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage confidential information.
- Position is on site only, not eligible for remote or hybrid work status.
