Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Plans for the developmental needs of the children on an individual and group level in the areas of academic, emotional, social and psychomotor growth
- Establishes and maintains cooperative and effective working relationships with colleagues
- Maintains regular, open communication with parents, faculty, and administration
- Communicates effectively orally and in writing
- Demonstrates strong content knowledge as well as the ability to employ various instructional practices
- Demonstrates a knowledge of assessments and the ability to use data for planning and instruction
- Executes curriculum in an appropriate manner, including the use of technology to enhance student learning where developmentally appropriate
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of Google Suite
- Performs all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supports and acts in accordance with the Academy’s mission
- Prepares a welcoming and nurturing learning environment to facilitate the needs of all children
- Strong literacy instructional skills
- Understanding of the importance of phonics based instruction
- Implements CPA (concrete-pictorial-abstract) methodology to mathematics instruction
- Demonstrates excellent planning and preparation for instruction
- Develops and implements individual and group lessons
- Monitors student progress
- Maintains and updates thorough academic records
- Excellent organizational and observational skills
- Must be a patient and nurturing individual
- Develops and implements weekly, monthly, and annual curricular goals
- Maintains professional credentials as appropriate

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Elementary Education from an accredited institution
- NY State or comparable certification in teaching
- Prior teaching experience of students in grades K-3
- Orton-Gillingham training/certification a plus but not required
Working Conditions:
The work environment is a standard classroom setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate, but occasionally high depending upon student population and activities. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions and/or outdoor weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display terminal. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision.
