DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Acts as a sustainability champion for the Narragansett Bay Commission to promote, in accordance with the Strategic Plan, all aspects of sustainability including but not limited to energy efficiency, renewable energy management, and reducing/characterizing carbon footprint. This position monitors NBC’s Power Production Agreements (PPAs), Net Metering Credits (NMCs), and Renewable Credits (RECs), tracks, monitors, and comments on renewable energy legislation. This position is responsible for writing grants to fund NBC initiatives focused on sustainability topics such as greenhouse gas reductions, climate related compliance issues, disposable wipe issues, and wastewater management. Perform performance tracking and analysis for renewable energy production and energy consumption. Work closely with Finance and Accounting to ensure accurate billing. Collaborates with all NBC Departments on sustainability projects to determine feasibility, implementation, and construction. Tracks outputs of completed projects. Assist the NBC Legal Department by reviewing proposed legislation and state programs. Plan, present and/ or coordinate seminars, workshops, articles, case studies, newsletters, research proposals, etc., targeting at educating the regulated community and Narragansett Bay Commission. Publish research, data findings, and treatment plant performance when possible and update projects and findings on the NBC website. Reviews State of Rhode Island Legislation related to renewable energy and sustainability that could have an effect on NBC. Review technical materials (journal articles, manufacturer’s literature, regulatory records, internet websites, etc.), corresponds with others (environmental regulators, universities, schools, trade organizations, equipment vendors, technical consultants, industry representatives, etc.) and participates in seminars/ workshops for the purpose of remaining updated on industrial performance levels and emerging technologies and regulations that may impact on the regulated community. Required to write technical abstracts and conduct presentations related to NBCs energy and sustainability initiatives. Maintain and up-to-date and accurate database/ file(s) of all work performed and maintain a library of technical resource materials. Identify suitable grant programs and prepare grant applications for sustainability projects. Establishes and fosters strong community relationships with state and local agencies, universities, and peer organizations. Hosts tours of wind turbines and bio-gas facilities for university students. Perform other duties as assigned, within skill and experience capabilities.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION /EXPERIENCE Graduation from a four-year college with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering, a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a degree in a related discipline with an emphasis on Energy and Sustainability.
JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: A working knowledge of chemistry, biology, manufacturing practices and procedures, and Federal and State environmental regulations. Must be highly proficiency in MS word, Excel, and Power Point software programs. This position requires accomplished verbal and written communication skills and the ability to technically interact at all levels internally and externally.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
