POSITION: Financial Analyst - Payroll
REPORTS TO: Executive Director of School Finance
SALARY GRADE: State Salary Scale commensurate with degree and experience
NATURE OF WORK: An employee in this position is responsible to the Payroll Supervisor and the Finance Officer for the timely and accurate preparation of assigned schools and department payrolls. Work is evaluated through observations, work performed and conferences with the immediate supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional Duties may be assigned.
? Enters and verifies employee payroll data from data sheets for certified employees,
and calculates timesheets for classified employees for schools and departments assigned.
? Posts employee absences and reasons for absences/transfer leave balances.
? Sets up and verifies longevity data for new employees.
? Calculates and processes any adjustments for employee pay.
? Initiates address changes, tax changes, direct deposit changes and other corrections as
needed and/or required.
? Maintains all payroll records for assigned schools and/or departments in an orderly manner consistent with state, federal and local regulations.
? Processes written verifications for employment income, social security and unemployment.
? Balances and processes deductions for annuities, child support, bankruptcy, student
loan garnishments, PENC, NTANC, dental, life insurance and VIFP.
? Handles employee phone calls concerning payroll questions.
? Delivers payroll materials and messages to appropriate individuals.
? Assists with payroll data entry for payroll co-workers as needed.
? Trains to keep abreast of the latest computer technology and current payroll regulations.
? Works on audit exceptions/transfers in BUD system.
? Logs checks on daily check log for deposit.
? Assists payroll supervisor with check writing process.
? Handles employee retirement calculations and form processing.
? Performs related duties as assigned by the Finance Officer.
SECONDARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
? Serves as back-up computer operator.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
? Considerable knowledge of payroll software with the latest computer terminal skills.
? Considerable knowledge of the latest payroll regulations consistent with federal, state
and local requirements.
? Ability to communicate with all employees.
? Ability to determine priorities in order to complete payrolls.
? Ability to be flexible when payroll preparation circumstances require alternative actions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
? Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of stooping,
kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing
and repetitive motion.
? Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to 20 pounds of force
occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry,
push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
? Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and use figures, to operate a computer
terminal and other office equipment and to do extensive reading.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
? Graduation from a two-year college with a business degree preferred or a minimum of at least two years’ experience in a business office preferably in processing.
? Preference given to experience in School Business.
