What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Social Work position at Nashville Hispanic Bar Association?
The Nashville Hispanic Bar Association is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Director of Social Work to support the Eviction Right to Counsel Program. The Eviction Right to Counsel provides high quality free legal advice and representation to low- and middle-income folks facing eviction in Nashville. The Director of Social Work will work alongside attorneys to help address complex challenges for clients that are at risk of eviction by providing direct services, advocacy, and access to resources. The Director of Social Work will play a key role in stabilizing housing, addressing the underlying issues that may lead to eviction, and promoting housing justice. The Director of Social Work will also work closely with organizational leadership to create and implement guidelines and policies for case-handling staff.
This is a one-year grant funded position with the possibility of renewal based on continued funding.

Responsibilities include:
- Build and develop relationships with local MSW programs
- Recruit and supervise fieldwork placements
- Conduct intake assessments to identify tenants' needs and develop individualized action plans.
- Provide crisis intervention, counseling, and emotional support to tenants throughout the eviction process.
- Develop resources to successfully secure affordable and appropriate housing for clients.
- Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, shelters, and social services agencies to ensure clients receive comprehensive care.
- Coordinate referrals to community resources, such as housing assistance, financial support, mental health services.
- Work closely with attorneys, paralegals, and housing advocates to develop a holistic support system for tenants.
- Engage in community outreach to inform tenants of their right to counsel and available resources
- Maintain accurate case files and documentation of client interactions, service plans, and outcomes
- Report on the effectiveness of the program by tracking key metrics and outcomes
- Other tasks as required
Qualifications and Requirements:
- MSW and TN licensure in good standing (required)
- 2 years of postgraduate experience strongly preferred
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Demonstrated commitment to serving historically underserved communities
- Compassion and empathy for all people, especially older adults, people of color, and people with disabilities
- Cultural awareness and sensitivity, with the capability to work efficiently in diverse cultural settings and interact with communities respectfully and with understanding
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Willingness and ability to travel locally for client home visits and court appearances
- Passionate about collective liberation, housing justice and social equity
- Ability to be resourceful and remain communicative in the face of stress and change
- Bilingual strongly preferred
