JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Emotional Brain Institute (EBI) is a multidisciplinary institute aimed at addressing fundamental questions in neuroscience and neuropsychiatry. We seek to hire a Research Scientist to direct a lab conducing behavioral, electrophysiological, and microscopy-based experiments on animals, aimed at understanding brain function.
JOB DUTIES:
This job involves running a research laboratory:
Conducting and overseeing the conduction of research experiments;
Training and supervising personnel;
Purchasing, setting up, and maintaining equipment;
Managing, processing, and analyzing data.
Reading, reviewing, and writing research papers;
Reviewing and writing grants;
Giving research presentations in collegiate and scholarly settings;
Traveling to research conferences to present results and network with experts in the field to set up future collaborations; Serving on committees at the institutional level to facilitate research and scholarly activities.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS;
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Neuroscience or related field
At least 3 years of additional training in a subfield (e.g. a postdoc)
More than 5 years experience running a successful research laboratory
Substantial independent funding (R01s or equivalent) and a history of successful funding of research laboratory
A strong publication history of more that 15 first or senior author publications.
Preferred Qualifications:
Membership in scholarly societies (e.g. ACNP, SOBP)
Prominence in one's field, as evidenced by an high h-index (>25)
Evidence of successful training of research scientists, such as students with Ph.D.s or postdocs with employment.
Background Investigation/Justice Center Review Requirements:
Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment. 2) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
