JOB DESCRIPTION :

The position of Housekeeping Supervisor supervises staff in the cleaning, care and upkeep of various areas within Nathan S. Kline Institute (NKI) including lab areas, offices, common space including bathrooms. Primary responsibility will be the supervision of lower-level housekeeping and cleaning positions, performing activities and tasks associated with the cleaning, care, and upkeep of various areas within NKI. In addition, this individual will be responsible for ordering all necessary supplies and equipment needed to carry out the tasks of the housekeeping department and to monitor and control inventory and distribution of those supplies and equipment.

In addition, this individual will be responsible to schedule housekeeping staff to ensure adequacy of available manpower, reassigns staff to assure that work is accomplished according to schedule and that staff is fully utilized. Arranges for reassignment of personnel to handle absences

Provides training in proper methods related to housekeeping practices. Responsible for Inspecting buildings and assigned areas for compliance with cleaning program. Investigates complaints regarding unsatisfactory cleaning performance and takes corrective action. Evaluates work performance of subordinate staff through personal observations and takes appropriate remedial action to improve work performance. Assures efficient and effective use of time by the staff by such means as enforcing the attendance rules, resolving disciplinary problems, and meeting established work standards and schedules.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS :

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of cleaning equipment / products and effective housekeeping work performance standards.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision.
  • Knowledge of supply requisitioning, inventory, and distribution practices and techniques.
  • Knowledge of personnel practices related to hiring, and ability to evaluate employee performance.
  • Ability to recognize below standard work performance and take appropriate remedial action.
  • Must possess the ability to communicate both, verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Background Investigation / Justice Center Review Requirements :

    Prospective appointees will be : 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment. 2) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
