Description : Summary of Position
The Vice President, Research is responsible for leading NAA’s research efforts on topics of importance to the multifamily industry and the association. This includes implementing and managing specific research projects, providing insight on government and other relevant data impacting apartments, and supporting the growth of NAA’s long-term research capacity. The Research VP develops indispensable advocacy and industry research / data resources for all NAA stakeholders, policy makers and media. The position requires project management, data analytics, presentation, communications and long-term planning skills.
Principal Accountabilities
- Lead the production of research projects including advocacy, industry, economic and sponsored research.
- Coordinate the execution of research projects annually, including crafting RFPs, interviewing prospective research partners (i.e. educational institutions, private research and consulting firms, etc.), establishing work parameters, managing work execution and leading presentation of results.
- Manage the NAA big data project, ensuring the platform is a transformative data experience for all apartment stakeholders, and results in an informed, equitable and sustainable apartment market.
- Leverage new technologies to increase productivity, efficiencies and output for the Research Department.
- Build relationships with academic institutions and other organizations to further NAA’s research objectives and raise its profile .
- Speak to members of the media, serving as a thought leader for NAA; prepare other NAA staff for media interviews with relevant data.
- Participate on panels at industry events and conferences to raise the profile of NAA as thought leader for the industry.
- Present NAA research initiatives, plans, and reports to the Executive Committee and Board of Directors.
- Craft a strategy for growing NAA’s research and analysis capacity in the long-term.
- Provide training, support, resources, coaching and mentoring for research staff.
- Analyze raw data, surveys, research reports and other relevant information from federal, state or local governments, independent research institutions or other sources for the development or operation of apartments and rental housing.
- Prepare communications tools including blog posts, articles or visual aids to communicate the analyses noted above and on other topics related to research.
- Advise NAA departments and affiliates on their research efforts, including potential lines of inquiry, data resources, analyzing existing data, structuring research questions and evaluating research firms.
- Respond in a timely manner to requests for data, research and analysis from the media, affiliates, members, board members and policymakers.
- Collaborate with the Business Development Team on research sponsorships.
- Manage the partnership and analysis of the Income and Expense IQ.
