Position Summary:

The Facilities Coordinator will support the Facilities Manager with all aspects of general groundskeeping and the upkeep and repair of Hog Island and mainland buildings and building systems. Winter season work will revolve around maintaining mainland property, monitoring Hog Island, and maintaining the decoy manufacturing shop and producing decoy blanks as necessary in close collaboration with the Decoy Project Manager. The work week is 35 hours and weekend work will be required, as some projects must be completed around the weather and camp program schedule.

Compensation:

$18.00-$20.00 / hour

Additional Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Independently, perform general carpentry, painting, cleaning, machine maintenance, and plumbing projects

  • Independently Mow and trim lawns of Seabird Institute properties weekly or as needed in summer.

  • Conduct landscaping and trail maintenance

  • Operate small boats and transport materials and supplies to and from Hog Island.

  • Conduct refuse management and removal for all Bremen based infrastructure of the Seabird Institute

  • Transport supplies, propane, and building materials to Island and refuse from island for disposal

  • Maintain Seabird institute machinery, including pumps, generators, tractor, and mowers.

  • Maintain Decoy Production shop space, materials, tools, and machinery.

  • Independently produce decoy blanks and conservation products based on the needs of the Decoy Production Manager.

  • Order and stock all materials to produce Decoy Blanks

  • Occasionally visit and monitor Hog Island during the winter season and secure it as necessary

  • Track project costs, account for materials, and communicate accounting and project details with Facilities Manager and Office Manager.

  • Ensure cleanliness and manage maintenance and registration of all vehicles, boats, and trailers owned and operated out of Todd Wildlife Sanctuary.

    • Snow removal at mainland property as needed.

  • Partner with Audubon staff to ensure that equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging principles are incorporated and followed in all aspects of our work.

  • In coordination with the Facilities Manager, the Coordinator will;

    • Launch, and maintain docks, skiffs, powerboats, and dories

    • Assist in Maintaining all buildings, including plumbing, electrical, and septic systems

    • Assist in opening and closing buildings in spring and fall including water systems

    • Assist in setting up and maintaining the salt-water aquarium "touch tank"

    • Maintain shop inventories and tools

    • Oversee and direct work performed by maintenance volunteers

    • Painting, staining, scraping, and aesthetic improvements to all buildings

  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 0 - 2 year of related experience in building trades required

  • Technical school or college graduate preferred with an interest in both conservation/trades.

  • Ability to plan projects and materials lists, work independently, and prioritize projects.

  • Valid driver's license and experience operating small boats.

  • Ability to safely and skillfully operate power tools, chainsaws, mowers, tractors, and hand tools.

  • Must enjoy working outdoors, with and around people, and possess the ability to easily adapt to changing priorities; a good sense of humor is highly desirable.

  • First aid certification is a strong plus.

  • Must be able to lift to 50 lbs., and ability to traverse up to 5 miles on beach or uneven terrain carrying tools, supplies, and equipment with or without accommodation

  • Strong interest and dedication to environmental conservation and sustainability.
