What are the responsibilities and job description for the Spring/Summer Health Policy Fellow position at National Center for Health Research?
Location: Washington, DC (Hybrid – 1–2 days/week in office near Farragut Square)
Duration: 3 to 5 months
Hours: Flexible, 20–40 hours/week (between 9 AM–6 PM, Monday–Friday)

Terrific opportunity for former staff at HHS agencies who want to use their research, communication, or policy skills to improve U.S. public health and federal health policies. The National Center for Research (NCHR) is seeking experienced professionals who are interested in a short-term position as a Health Policy Fellow. NCHR is a boutique think tank that educates policymakers, policy analysts, opinion leaders, the media, and the public through briefings, hearings, meetings, and written materials. Fellows will work with a small team in a high-impact environment to organize and communicate ways to improve and restore HHS programs and policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft public comments to federal HHS agencies
- Meet with Congressional staff and/or write talking points for Members of Congress
- Analyze and interpret data from HHS databases
- Translate complex research into accessible information for patients, consumers, policymakers, and media
- Collaborate on commentaries or research articles
Qualifications:
- Master’s, MD, doctorate, ABD, or equivalent degree
- Available for a 3-5 month commitment with the possibility of advancement
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Background in public health, research, or health policy
- Experience in science communication to non-scientific audiences
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity/experience working on programs/policies at FDA or CMS
- Proficiency in biostatistics
