The National Federation of the Blind of Nebraska (NFBN) is excited to announce an opportunity to lead and inspire for the 2025 Braille Enrichment for Literacy and Learning (BELL) Academy.
The NFB BELL Academy is a nationwide program designed to prepare blind and low-vision children for independent and confident lives. Through instruction in Braille literacy, cane travel, and daily living activities, the program nurtures essential skills and fosters a positive philosophy about blindness.
Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with the NFBN Board to set academy dates and budget.
• Secure an accessible venue for the academy.
• Recruit and manage a team of volunteers, ensuring background checks for those working with students.
• Promote the academy throughout Nebraska, recruiting students and connecting with families.
• Guide families in understanding the program’s value and addressing their questions.
• Work with a lead teacher to select lessons from the NFB BELL curriculum and ensure materials are prepared.
• Plan parent engagement activities in collaboration with local or national Parents of Blind Children organizations.
• Oversee logistics for transportation, meals, and on-site activities during the academy.
• Manage and utilize the NFB BELL Portal to handle program documentation, applications, and reports.
• Complete a final report to evaluate program outcomes and inform future initiatives.
Qualifications:

• Passionate about empowering blind children and promoting literacy.
• Skilled in leadership, organization, and event coordination.
• Dedicated to fostering community and independence for blind and low-vision individuals.
