WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU
SUMMARY
The Senior LIVE Technical Producer is a full-time position within NHL Productions. The ideal candidate is a production and technical hybrid with experience in all production-related roles as well as hands-on operation of broadcast graphics systems, production switchers, replay machines and other operational control room engineering hardware. They must have a deep understanding of live sports production, studio sports production, the ability to collaborate across departments and a passion for delivering world-class storytelling that enhance the fan experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate broadcast engineering hardware, including graphics engines (Chyron, Ross XPression, Unreal Engine, Unity, VizRt), replay systems (EVS, Evertz DreamCatcher) and switchers (Sony, Grass Valley, Ross Carbonite/Acquity)
- Serve as the technical lead in the production control room, ensuring seamless execution of live graphics, virtual elements, specialty technology integrations and studio lighting
- Lead the integration and execution of real-time graphics, augmented reality (AR) and virtual production elements within live broadcasts and post-production
- Partner with producers, designers, engineers and operations teams to develop and implement cutting-edge broadcast enhancements and storytelling tools
- Produce live player tracking visualizations, statistical overlays and data-driven graphics to create immersive sports experiences
- Oversee the integration of graphics and technology into live and post-production workflows
- Work closely with editors and motion graphics artists to streamline the post-production pipeline using tools like Adobe After Effects, Premiere and Cinema 4D
- Maintain and improve technical workflows for asset management, real-time rendering and playback systems
- Stay ahead of emerging broadcast technology trends, recommending upgrades and solutions that enhance efficiency and performance
- Ensure best practices for broadcast reliability
- Define and manage the production technical requirements for various projects, ensuring project plans are efficient, scalable and on budget
- Collaborate with Innovation and Engineering/IT teams to explore/evaluate new production technology including software, hardware, cloud and production facilities
- Serve as the NHL Productions operations lead in the evaluation, testing and selection process of new technology coordinating with the department Group VP/Coordinating Director
- Scope includes technical and administrative aspects of operations, production and training
- Travel will be required
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge Areas/Experience
Required
- 15 years of combined experience in production and engineering
- Extensive knowledge of production workflows, technologies, and industry best practices
- Experience in creating traditional content while pushing the boundaries of new methods of storytelling and various types of content including (but not limited to) wagering/betting, e-sports, social media/viral moments, big data (player puck tracking), etc.
- Proven history in creative problem solving in a fast-paced, league-operated content group
Education/Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in production, engineering, or a related field

- Strong analytical skills, with experience in business planning and budget management
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple projects with tight timelines

SALARY RANGE:
$180-210K
Actual base pay for a successful candidate will be determined based on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to: experience/training, market demands, and geographic location.
