Job Title: Nurse Educator

Reports To: Nurse Administrator

FLSA: Exempt, Full time


JOB SUMMARY


DEFINITION:
Nurse Educators are responsible for communicating class content to students so that learning occurs, skills are developed, and students are motivated to continue to learn and to achieve their educational objectives, in the classroom and in a hybrid distance learning environment. With daily supervision provided by the Nurse Administrator, all Nurse Educators will be responsible to report to the Nurse Administrator.


Nurse Educators in the Practical Nursing program can be called upon to teach a variety of programs. The focus of the Practical Nursing program will depend upon the program and the term that is being taught.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES


Hybrid Learning Environment (Permanent)

  • Interact with students in a professional manner, offering constructive, encouraging, substantive, and timely feedback.
  • Conduct video lectures and/or discussion (using Microsoft Teams).
  • Tutor students as necessary during office hours and/or video conferencing tools.
  • Counsel students regarding their performance in the course (both positive and negative.)
  • Encourage critical thinking, participation, and discussion by all students.
  • Quickly identify and address problems with course content or technology.
  • Provide timely grade postings and feedback.
  • In a permanent hybrid learning environment, evaluate course shell at least one week before the scheduled start of classes; communicating any issues (broken web links, missing materials, etc.) with the Nurse Administrator.
  • Communicate with students on roster.
  • Participate actively in course discussions, ensuring that all students are participating and interacting with one another. Facilitate discussion, call attention to other approaches, and answer specific questions raised by students.
  • Grade examinations and provide remediation (as applicable).
  • Respond to written assignments with personalized comments.


On-Campus Instruction

  • Update contact information shared with students for each course to include Nurse Educator name, method of contact and office hours.
  • Distribute a class syllabus to all students within the first class sessions.
  • Prepare and grade applicable on-campus examinations based upon course objectives.
  • Begin class at the designated time and provide a full period of instruction for the class period involved.
  • Leaves the classroom or laboratory clean, organized, and ready for the next class.


Overall

  • Teach the depth and scope of class material as outlined in the syllabus and approved course outline.
  • Relate instruction to careers and employer expectations.
  • Participate in student retention efforts.
  • Submit, at designated time, final grades for all students and maintain weekly grade sheets.
  • Accurately enter attendance and submit attendance in a timely manner (due each Tuesday by 10:00am in a hybrid environment and due at the conclusion of an on-campus class).
  • Attempt contact with students who are absent or whom lack engagement and report pertinent information to the Nurse Administrator and Director of Student Services.
  • Attend communication meetings, faculty meetings, in-service sessions, student orientation, graduation, and other school events as required by the school.
  • Maintain professional appearance.
  • Substitute in classes when necessary.
  • Perform other responsibilities as approved and coordinated through the Nurse Administrator.


QUALIFICATIONS


Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with a valid, unencumbered OSBN license are required. Additionally, at least three years of related work experience are required.


Expectations:
Nurse Educators must be accessible to students via email, phone, and Microsoft Teams. Nurse Educators must log into and/or engage with their courses and students within the Learning Management System (LMS), five of seven days each week. In addition, Nurse Educators must respond to each student’s questions and/or initial responses in a substantive, timely, and personalized manner (email/canvass within 24 business hours, discussion posts within 5 business days).


TERMS OF AGREEMENT


  • Establish an on-campus (at least 4 hours a week not including instructional time) and a virtual support schedule, as approved by the Nurse Administrator.
  • Provide own internet service.
  • Strive to meet standard scores on course evaluations and student surveys.
  • Assist in meeting campus retention rate.
  • Attend at least two department meetings, monthly, to stay connected.
  • Attend quarterly all-staff meetings to stay connected.
  • Maintain exclusivity to Institute of Technology.
  • Commit to continuous improvement as an educator by attending trainings and professional development opportunities as desired or as assigned.
  • Attend one graduation ceremony a year.
  • Participate in school sponsored activities.
  • Participate in professional development as assigned by the Nurse Administrator and Director of Education.
