WHAT YOU’LL DO
The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) Development Director will lead the Development team and fundraising strategy to support the NKF’s mission through various events and programs in the market. They will be directly responsible for the activities occurring in the Des Moines, Iowa and Sioux Falls, South Dakota markets including but not limited to the NKF Golf Classics and Kidney Walk. Responsibilities include working with volunteer leaders to plan logistics for all fundraising events, as well as develop and steward corporate and individual relationships to benefit the NKF. They will identify new opportunities to grow portfolio engagement across all fundraising channels to increase revenue, including corporate partnerships, events, and individual giving. A successful candidate will bring a growth mindset and collaborative nature to achieve our mission and revenue goals. This position is accountable for significant revenue targets.
The ideal candidate must have proven success in fundraising and/or sales and relationship management and direct supervision experience. Exceptional organizational, written, and verbal communication skills are necessary for this position. Must have ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and achieve results in a team environment.
- Supervise planning, execution, budgeting, and evaluation of assigned signature NKF events, including but limited to the annual Golf Classic, Kidney Walk, and social events in the Des Moines and Sioux Falls markets.
- Supervise and lead development staff in market area.
- Create and execute all fundraising strategies within the markets.
- Secure funding for and implement other corporate and community-based opportunities like Drive for Dialysis, Your Kidneys & You, and Team Kidney.
- Serve as a member of the development team driving relationships and best practices to accomplish market financial goals.
- Develop revenue projections and provide financial analysis.
- Oversee stewardship activities; ensure a high-touch response to partners and donors.
- Recruit and steward board and committee leadership.
- Drive donor centric partnerships to support financial goals of market events, programs and prioritized initiatives.
- Maintain meticulous records of prospects, gifts, etc.
- Oversee community engagement activities as opportunities arise.
- Manage fundraising software relevant to events (RallyBound and Classy are examples)
- Deliver high customer service to all constituents.
- Oversee office invoicing, deposits, and assist with other administrative tasks
- Ensure compliance with NKF policies, including employment, risk management, event and cash handling, and financial controls.
- Lead office marketing efforts
- Other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU’LL POSSESS
- Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of non-profit fundraising experience or sales experience preferred.
- Proven record of success in account management and developing corporate partnerships that result in exceeding revenue targets, preferred.
- Direct supervision experience preferred.
- Knowledge of sales concepts.
- Outcome driven with ability to respond to changing circumstances and priorities.
- Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in computer-based information systems.
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
- Knowledge of Salesforce preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS, EQUIPMENT USED AND SPECIAL INFORMATION
Must have unimpeachable integrity and trustworthiness while possessing a high degree of tact, discretion, and professionalism. Verbal and written communication skills will be used daily. Maintain effectiveness under pressure. Competency in use of a multiple-line telephone, personal computer, fax machine, photocopier, and other standard office equipment. Ability to lift and transport equipment weighing up to 25 lbs. Flexible to work evenings and weekends as needed. Available for overnight business travel. Must have a valid driver’s license.
