POSITION OVERVIEW
Consistent with the mission, vision and values of National League of Cities, implement membership programs that grow NLC membership and build overall awareness of NLC service offerings. Build and maintain strong working relationships with members in assigned portfolio to increase their engagement in NLC activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Member City Administration
- Manage a portfolio of NLC member cities. Maintain regular communication with key city officials and staff.
- Receive and respond to member inquiries and requests regarding NLC services and programs in a prompt and informed manner.
- Track inquiries and requests from members and non-members utilizing NLC’s customer management database(s).
- Track participation of member city officials and staff in NLC activities.
- Collect member dues; monitor billing cycles and initiate collection efforts when appropriate.
- Implement targeted marketing and engagement programs to retain existing members, as directed by the Program Director.
- Build awareness of NLC services and programs through targeted communications and materials, the value those services provide to cities, and the methods by which new members can most easily engage with and utilize our services.
- Promote NLC products and services to city representatives.
- Member Recruitment and Retention
- Implement marketing programs, as directed by the Program Director, to recruit and retain members in alignment with the overall membership strategy.
- Assist with market research to identify potential members as needed.
- Assist with the creation of website content, newspaper content, brochures, information sheets, and other materials that support the deployment of marketing programs.
- Implement marketing and messaging programs that connect first-time conference attendees with NLC service offerings. Follow-up with attendees to build interest in and attain NLC membership.
- Establish communication with prospective members (phone, letters, emails) and assist in the development of sales presentations as needed.
- Travel to member and non-member cities to promote NLC membership
- Implement membership outreach and engagement strategies as directed by the Program Director.
- Council Management
- Plan and execute multiple council meetings and activities throughout the year.
- Provide staff support to council(s), communicating proactively and effectively with council leadership and members
- Implement strategies and tactics to increase participation in council meetings at NLC’s conferences.
- Develop dynamic council meeting agendas designed to help attendees grow professionally and enhance their effectiveness as municipal roles
- Coordinate council communications and outreach to members.
- Communicate/coordinate council activities with other NLC staff as required.
- Member Data Administration
- Update member and non-member data in Netforum on a consistent and regular basis
- Cross-reference rosters supplied by non-members with NLC databases for prospective members.
- Provide updated outreach data to vendors for mass mailings and other communications.
- Meetings & Events
- Promote NLC membership at meetings, events, and conferences throughout the year.
- Assist with the annual voting and credentialing governance process at the national conference.
- Coordinate the membership recognition program showcased at the national conference. Create member award certificates and plaques for membership anniversaries.
- Remain aware of current NLC strategies, activities, and services to provide accurate and timely information to members and NLC staff.
- Perform other duties and complete special projects as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in strategic communications, marketing/public relations, public administration, business administration, or related field
- 3 years of related experience required, preferably in a non-profit association or organization
- Intermediate and advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Demonstrated knowledge of computer databases, preferably experience with netFORUM
- Demonstrated knowledge of Hubspot, or similar, marketing platform
- Experience working with city officials and/or city governments preferred
- Experience with meeting and special event/project planning, preferred
- Proven customer service orientation and ability to proactively discern and resolve customer needs

WORK LOCATION
This hybrid position is based in Washington, DC, and requires three days on-site at our NLC headquarters.
SALARY RANGE
$58,000 - $72,000
