Job Description

The Manager of Learning & Organizational Development will lead the strategic direction, design, and execution of scalable programs that foster a culture of continuous learning, strengthen leadership capabilities, and enhance organizational effectiveness for NREL's 4,000-person workforce. This role partners closely with executive and senior leadership, HR leaders, and other key stakeholders to develop initiatives that align with NREL’s mission and business objectives, driving employee engagement, talent retention, and organizational agility.

Responsibilities :

Design and implement a learning and organizational development (L&OD) strategy aligned with business goals.

Oversee leadership development, employee upskilling, and organizational effectiveness initiatives, including team effectiveness, culture transformation, and succession planning.

Provide data-driven recommendations to executive leadership and HR Business Partners to address challenges and drive performance.

Build and scale programs for onboarding, leadership development, and professional growth using modern learning methodologies.

Facilitate leadership training workshops to equip managers with tools for coaching and team performance.

Utilize organizational and skill gap assessments and feedback to create targeted development initiatives.

Collaborate with the Office of Change Management to execute change strategies that ensure organizational readiness.

Lead and mentor the L&OD team, fostering a high-performing, growth-oriented culture.

Establish KPIs to evaluate the effectiveness of L&OD programs, and provide budget oversight.

Report outcomes and insights to senior leadership, leveraging data to refine and improve initiatives.

Basic Qualifications

Previous management and budget adherence experience may be required. Degree in appropriate field is required. Demonstrated knowledge of legal and ethical management issues and practices. In-depth knowledge of the issues and best practices in the applicable field of expertise. Generally viewed as subject matter expert for group or work units. Excellent organization, project management, budgeting, interpersonal and communication skills. Proven problem-solving and negotiation skills. Demonstrated ability to make appropriate decisions regarding work activities and projects. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and direct personnel with diverse skills, work styles and values.

  • Must meet educational requirements prior to employment start date.

Additional Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in organizational development, human resources, business, or a related field (master’s preferred).

7 years of experience in learning and organizational development, including leadership roles with a proven ability to lead teams in a collaborative, matrixed environment.

Demonstrated experience designing and delivering scalable learning and development programs.

Strong knowledge of change management and organizational effectiveness methodologies.

Proficiency in data analysis and reporting to measure program success.

Proficiency with learning management systems (LMS) and modern training technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree in organizational development, education, or related field.

Certification in change management (e.g., Prosci, ACMP) or L&OD methodologies.

Experience working in a mission-driven, growth-oriented organization.

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)

Job Profile : Manager II / Annual Salary Range : $117,200 - $211,000
