Statement of the Position:

The Telecom Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the organization’s enterprise-level telecommunication infrastructure. This role involves leading telecom projects, optimizing telecom systems for performance and security, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The Telecom Engineer also acts as a technical expert, providing leadership and mentorship to the telecom administration team and collaborating with other IT teams to integrate telecom solutions with the broader IT infrastructure.

Duties and Responsibilities / Essential Functions:

 

  • Telecom Infrastructure Design:
    • Lead the design and implementation of enterprise-level telecom architectures, ensuring scalability, security, and high availability.
    • Oversee telecom infrastructure projects, from planning and design through to implementation and maintenance.
  • Telecom System Optimization:
    • Monitor and analyze telecom system performance, identifying and addressing bottlenecks and vulnerabilities.
    • Implement advanced telecom technologies and optimization strategies to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • Security and Compliance:
    • Develop and implement comprehensive security strategies to protect the organization’s telecom infrastructure from threats.
    • Conduct regular security assessments and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Incident Response and Troubleshooting:
    • Lead incident response efforts for critical telecom incidents, ensuring rapid resolution and minimal business impact.
    • Provide advanced troubleshooting support for complex telecom issues and act as the final escalation point for the telecom administration team.
  • Leadership and Mentorship:
    • Provide leadership and mentorship to the telecom administration team, fostering professional growth and technical development.
    • Act as a technical advisor to IT leadership on telecom-related matters.
  • Collaboration and Integration:
    • Work closely with other IT teams to ensure seamless integration of telecom systems with network, server, and security solutions.
    • Drive continuous improvement in telecom operations, focusing on efficiency, scalability, and security.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain comprehensive documentation of telecom architecture, security measures, and performance metrics.
    • Prepare and present regular reports to IT leadership on telecom performance, security, and project progress.

 

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. There is a possibility for overtime and on-call rotation hours.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. The employee is regularly required to sit; use hands repetitively to operate standard office equipment. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms.

 

Required Education, Experience & Competencies:

Formal Education & Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Telecommunications, or related field, or equivalent experience.

 

Knowledge & Experience

  • 6-8 years of experience in telecom administration and architecture.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing a large-scale UCaaS and CCaaS implementation project support of complex telecom environments.
  • Strong VOIP, TCP/IP and routing knowledge (TCP/UDP/IP/ICMP/etc.)
  • Deep understanding of telecom configuration and call-tree and queue setup.
  • Experience with TCP/IP troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Voice/data cabling and WIFI.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a focus on rapport-building, listening, and questioning skills.
  • Strong documentation skills.
