The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Compiling payroll data such as garnishments, vacation time, insurance and RSP deductions
- Responsible for the accurate preparation, timekeeping documentation, distribution and reconciliation of payroll and the administration of the payroll system.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of city, provincial, local, and federal legislation (Canada) affecting payroll; understands and follows applicable provisions.
- Contacting various stakeholder for any missing information
- Processing bi-weekly transfer of payroll data to payroll system
- Reviews the computation of pay and associated deductions for accuracy
- Pulling payroll management reports from payroll software system
- Establishes policies and processes that ensure accurate calculation of wages, tax withholdings, and company deductions
- Interfaces between finance and HR departments to provide accurate and useful information
- Ensures accurate and on-time governmental reporting and compliance
- Ensures payroll issues are escalated and resolved promptly
- Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met
- Processes payroll with an outside service provider (UKG)
- Process Record of Employment Documentation
- Responsible for closing the year and all associated reporting, including balancing the year-end for accurate T4 reporting
- Performing other duties as assigned
- High School Diploma
- 5 years’ experience with Canadian & US Payroll
- Experience with UKG & Workforce Management “Ready”
- Extensive understanding of payroll and payroll tax laws required
- Proven facility in MS Office, data entry, and office equipment (e.g., telephone, headset, 10-key or calculator, computer, FAX machine, printer/copier)
- Proven facility in customer service, and problem resolution
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent organizational, planning, and prioritization skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
