Dean of Academic Affairs Distance Education- Hybrid position

Responsible to provide the leadership necessary to fulfill the mission, objectives, plans and goals of the        college/school in all education and training areas by planning, organizing, directing, staffing, training, coordinating, motivating, supervising and evaluating all facets of the school’s Education Department. Supervising and evaluating all the phases of the student cycle life the online modalities: Florida Technical College. Works directly with the Vice President Academic Affairs of NUC FTC in the leadership, direction, management and supervision of all academic matters pertaining to the online management of the Region. Provide leadership to the online faculty, institutional and regional academic leadership encouraging teaching excellence, assure proper assessment of student learning and compliance with internal and external regulatory matters.

Minimum requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Education. All degrees must be from institutions accredited by regional or national accrediting bodies approved by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in an online educational setting. 

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Meets or exceeds monthly and annual retention goals (70% of more) of the college and programs including but not limited driving improvement in areas of student academic progress (online final grades, SAP, student academic support) and contributing to student population goals and budget (laddering and reentries).
  • Continuously drives improvement in area of certification with the goal 90% sit, 80% pass, 70% certification for programs with certification and facilitates and provides workshops to reinforce certification test preparation for students, as needed.
  • Develops and maintains the master schedule for all online programs and courses. 
  • Verifies all classes have appropriate coverage (Instructors, TA’s, etc.) qualified instructors and that instructor’s complete contractual agreements through module end dates
  • Recruit, interview, and train quality faculty / staff / and teacher’s aids (if applicable)
  • Conducts quarterly formal classroom observations of instructors and academic leadership
  • Provide appropriate orientation and training programs for new hires 
  • Verifies academic leader are monitoring instructors’ maintenance of administrative duties (e.g., grades, attendance, record keeping, weekly audits)
  • Conducts student satisfaction surveys on all instructors at the end of each grading period. Summarizes and shares results with instructors in effort to reinforce and/or improve instructional quality.
  • Schedules and provides faculty development, in-service and professional growth activities to meet accreditation criteria and continuing education needs of the faculty.
  • Develops with the academic leaders and faculty, individual annual faculty professional development plans and monitor progress quarterly. 
  • Completes annual performance evaluations on faculty/staff members in a timely manner.
  • Maintains the quality of the online resource center/library per accrediting and regulatory standards.
  • Ensures the Academic/Education department is in compliance with all regulatory bodies
  • Monitors, facilitates, and implements timely curriculum revisions via coordination with and approval of VP Academic Affairs.
  • Reviews curriculum and educational resources / eBook changes with advisory boards and industry professionals, as necessary.
  • Ensures that instructors are following the prescribed curriculum and that course objectives are being met 
  • Supervises the institutional and regional program directors/ coordinators and faculty of the programs and courses offered in the online modality.
  • Supervises the academic program development for online courses with Regional Office of Academic Affairs.
  • Works closely with the NUC FTC Vice President of Academic Affairs and Retention and Educational Effectiveness and Planning Director in the development of assessment of student learning outcomes for the online modality.
  • Establishes and implements academic policies, standard operating procedures and practices for the online modality for the Florida region.
  • Sets guidelines, establishes procedures and monitors processes online programs and courses.
  • Ensures compliance with the established academic policies.
  • Analyzes and reviews financial and productivity reports. Identifies issues and presents resolutions.
  • Creates action plans, as needed, to address academic deficiencies within the online modality of Florida region.
  • Maintains close liaison and positive working relationships with executive directors, faculty, staff and all other employees interfacing with the online staff.
  •  Works on special projects as assigned by the Vice President of Academic Affairs of the Florida Region.

  • Staff meeting with Faculty members
  • Individual Development (Coaching / Mentoring)
