Communications Manager
The Communications Manager provides tactical support for department-wide projects and events, including editorial support and social media. Additional duties and responsibilities include support and implementation of grass-roots advocacy efforts, assistance with staffing of communications committee and Women’s Council members. This position will support the lithium battery recycling campaign and/or its equivalent program through member, ally, and cross-department efforts.

NWRA’s office is in the heart of Crystal City, in Arlington, VA. Candidates must be able to work onsite.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as editor, coordinator, writer, and distributor of content for member and stakeholder newsletters (weekly newsletter, Safety Monday Newsletter and member alerts).
- Develop editorial calendar, and manage, curate, and design social media content for LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
- Manage, coordinate, and act as primary contact for member grass-roots efforts in coordination with regional vice presidents and senior vice president of government affairs.
- Monitor social and traditional media.
- Manage logistics for NWRA webinars.
- Act as staff support for both communications committee and Women’s Council.
- Lead scripting for all external and internal events, including but not limited to NWRA national events.
- Edit a variety of materials including fact sheets, advisories, and presentations for grammar and content.
- Support NWRA in writing, designing and editing program materials for events.
- Assist SVP and director with media inquiries.
Website and Multimedia
- Assist in and act as backup for posting materials to the NWRA website in a timely and accurate manner.
- Assist in providing photography support for association events as needed.

- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills with an ability to produce effective communications materials, including the ability to distill complex and/or technical information into concise, influential external communications using a variety of communication vehicles.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications.
- Strong attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
- Must have the proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organization skills.
Education, Work Experience and/or Licensure
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, English, Marketing or related degree.
- 5 years of experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5 years prior experience in writing and editing copy.
- Experience working with various CMS, content sharing platforms, and MailChimp.
- Experience with the Associated Press style guide.
- Familiarity with association work preferred.
Language Skills
- Must have strong command of the English language.
