What Does a Prep Cook Do?
- Prepares daily food items as assigned
- Maintains a clean, safe and organized kitchen
- Assists with prepping food items for specials
- Follows recipes, procedures, and presentation guidelines as set by management
- Restocks items as needed
- Monitors and restocks items to ensure a smooth service flow
- Performs additional duties as required, including assisting other kitchen and café team members
What Does It Take to Be Successful as a Prep Cook?
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1-2 years’ experience in a prep cook or similar role in the restaurant/food and beverage industry preferred
- Knowledge of food handling, safety protocols and grill cooking techniques
- Results-oriented with the ability to serve stores with humility and be a steward of Nation’s Best’s values
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while remaining adaptable and flexible
- Strong interpersonal skills with the willingness to consistently provide superior customer service skills
- Physical ability to lift and carry items weighing 25-50 pounds, as well as perform tasks like bending, twisting, squatting and reaching throughout the work shift
- Availability to work a flexible schedule including nights and Saturdays
- Strong sense of urgency, attention to detail and willingness to support team members as needed
