Job Title: Controller
Job Summary:
The Controller is a corporate staff position responsible for providing oversight and management of the accounting operations within Nation’s Finest. This is a senior management position and is responsible for management of A/P and A/R, the maintenance and management of accounting records, monthly close, grant funding requests, annual audits, strategic planning within the accounting function, monthly financial reporting, and coordinating with the larger leadership team to produce adequate reports for the Board of Directors, as requested.
Job Duties:
- Perform draw requests under all grants, and notify team of concerns or questions related to funding draws.
- Reviews and directs all account postings from sub-systems, AP, AR, and PR.
- Ensures accounting accuracy in all general ledger systems.
- Manages monthly financial statements ensuring timely production.
- Suggests and implements improvements to processes and systems.
- Supports and develops an organic, cooperative environment. Mentors wherever possible.
- Lead financial and financial portion of compliance audits.
- Ensures financial compliance reports required for funders are produced and submitted timely.
- As requested, prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Manages various bank accounts, including ensuring field staff have tools they need to make purchases; for ex: the timely issuance of credit cards upon request.
- Protects business assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls and policies.
- Prepares tax schedules for annual tax filing in coordination with larger team.
- Supervises A/P and A/R team members.
- Supports higher-level accounting needs, consolidations, and intercompany eliminating entries.
- Responsible for allocating and tracking depreciation, prepaid expenses, deposits, vacation accruals, payroll, and fringe benefit accruals.
- Assists with collections, when necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Job Skills:
- Physical ability to sit or stand at a computer workstation for extended periods with or without an accommodation.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in an occasionally stressful environment, to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and to meet established deadlines.

- Advanced computer skills with regard to accounting software and Excel. Experience with MS Office programs.
- Ability and willingness to train and mentor other accounting team members.

- Ability to solve practical problems. Ability to interpret and apply common sense from a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Time Management: uses time efficiently and effectively, sets priorities and values time.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field required.
- CPA or prior certification highly desirable.
- Five years’ full-time experience in an accounting role, with a minimum of two years’ experience working at an exempt level in non-profit fund accounting, preferably with an organization operating multiple programs in various geographical areas.
- Computer proficiency with accounting software, spreadsheet, word processing and database programs. Experience with Abila (previously MIP) Nonprofit Fund Accounting Software a plus.

This is a full-time, exempt role who works as part of the Nation’s Finest management team. This role is eligible for participation in the organization’s comprehensive benefits package.
Full-time, starting salary $98,188- $118,859 annually, DOE.
