Position Summary :
The Vice President under the direct of the President, is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and oversee activities in the business unit, ensuring the development and implementation of efficient operations and cost-effective systems to meet current and future needs of the company.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities :
- Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains management staff in the department.
- Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
- Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
- Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
- Oversee and / or perform all aspects of work from point of sale to billing, as required.
- Oversees the preparation and final approval of project plans.
- Conducts or acquires cost analysis for development projects; prepares or delegates preparation of schedule of project completion dates.
- Ensures that projects are completed within budget and in an economical manner.
- Establishes and implements the strategic direction of the company’s construction and development initiatives.
- Collaborates with executive leadership to develop and meet organizational goals while supplying expertise and guidance on projects, operations, and systems.
- Conducts and / or reviews cost analysis by assessing material, labor, and overhead costs incurred in the production and finished products.
- Ensures that operating costs do not exceed the proposed budget.
- Evaluates cost effectiveness of and projects.
- Gather and analyze financial data to estimate and allocate costs for current or proposed projects.
- Drafts cost estimates for projects based on data analysis and research.
- Estimates the cost of new and proposed projects and services in the assigned departments, areas, or projects.
- Oversight and coordination of inventory relating to service work, project contracts, the warehouse, shop, and fleet, as required.
- Identifies, recommends, and implements new technologies and systems to improve organizational processes and decision-making.
- Ensures that departmental decisions such as staffing, development, organization are in line with the business plan and vision.
- Establishes, communicates, and implements construction and development policies, practices, standards, and security measures to ensure effective and consistent operations.
- Works with the management team to establish and administer the department’s budget.
- Maintains knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in commercial roofing and development related to the organizations industry.
- Negotiates cost-effective contracts for the organization; coordinates and implements contractors work, and resolves any disputes over labor, scheduling, or payments.
- Maintains relationships between the organization and outside consultants, contractors, and suppliers.
- Responsible for maintaining and updating the project management / development tracking tool.
- Receives, organizes, and maintains all construction documents.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills / Knowledge :
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively plan, organize and meet deadlines while maintaining a high level of quality. Ability to read blueprints and specifications. Intermediate computer skills required. (Microsoft Suite : Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) Ability to budget, measure department and motivate personnel.
Education / Experience :
Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field, preferred. Any equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered. At least Eight years commercial roofing experience or an equivalent market, manufacturing or distribution experience servicing the commercial roofing marketplace. Experience with Microsoft Project, Bluebeam and / or construction project management experience, highly preferred.

Work Environment :
Hybrid general office environment and regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and occasionally exposed to hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office and business office environment, with standard office equipment available. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Travel Requirements :
Yes - Dictated by the proximity of the projects and demand of the customer.
Physical Requirements :
Work does not require a great deal of physical strength but will require endurance for climbing multiple sets of stairs or ladders, exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Walking and standing may be required, up to 50% of the time.
