Title: Mental Health Intake Specialist
Location: Totem Lodge - 1438 SE Division Portland, OR 97202 or Wellness Center - 12360 E. Burnside, Portland, OR 97233
Schedule: This is an in-person position, Monday through Friday 8:30am-5pm.
Wage Range: $25.00 - $30.00 Hourly, non-exempt

Position Overview:

The Mental Health Intake Specialist will provide telephone screening, referral, and access for clients requesting mental health services at NARA NW. Position ensures priority access for American Indian/Alaska Native clients while meeting contractual mandates and provides short term stabilization and/or referral to NARA programs and resources. Also provides administrative assistance and other program support, including: arranging priority intake assignments from psychiatric hospital discharges, client referrals internal and external to NARA, tracking patient access, and census tracking for Adult Mental Health.

What you will do:

  • Telephone triage, referral and follow up to ensure successful engagement with internal and external resources.

  • Ensures client access is maintained according to contracts and to level of care needed, screens for eligibility for internal programs, and maintains database of the outcomes.

  • Responds to crisis phone calls, refer to emergency services if needed, facilitate service connections inside and outside of NARA.

  • Hospital discharge planning for clients recently discharged from area hospitals, arrange priority intakes..

  • Works collaboratively across all sites and programs with MH staff and other staff to ensure integrated, continuous access and referral.

  • Prepares Word documents and some Excel spreadsheets for reporting purposes

  • Works on integrating information into electronic health records system.

  • Enter information into outcomes informed care database and report on issues, track changes to system.

We would like to hear from people that have:

  • QMHA certified with MHACBO Board or two years experience working in mental health or integrated health care setting.

  • Requires working knowledge of MS Office products.

  • Ability to learn the electronic health records system.

  • Must have exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and superior organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills.

  • Requires flexibility, confidentiality, a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, and the proven ability to work professionally and collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.

  • Must have ability to effectively work in a multi-cultural environment and have experience with or have willingness to learn about AN/AI cultures and adapt approaches as needed.

  • Scheduling, intake, crisis and triage experience a plus
