Job Description

The Lead Medical Assistant (LMA) provides direct supervision of Medical Assistants (MAs) at a clinic site. The LMA ensures MAs perform high-quality, team-based patient care for both clinical and administrative functions. Additionally, the LMA serves as the Vaccine Coordinator at a clinic site, managing all aspects of vaccine ordering, storage, handling, and administration. This role is crucial for supporting MAs, providers and patients in the delivery of the Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) Model.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Clinical Operations of the Back-Office.
  2. Provides Supervision, Leadership, and Guidance to Medical Assistants.
  3. Manages Training of Medical Assistants.
  4. Maintains Back-Office Clinical Compliance.
  5. Acts as the Primary Vaccine Coordinator for the Assigned Site.
  6. Supports the organization as needed.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must have a current Medical Assistant certification. A Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) through the National Healthcare Association is preferred or comparable certification from an accredited organization.
  2. Minimum of two years' experience as a Medical Assistant in a direct patient care setting, with experience in pediatric and adult patients preferred.
  3. One (1) year of supervisory experience in the medical field preferred.
  4. Spanish language fluency is preferred.

Standard Employment Requirements: 

  1. Must possess a valid and unrestricted Arizona driver’s license (within 30 days of hire if applicant is from out-of-state) with no DUI/DWI or reckless driving convictions in the last five years. No more than two at-fault accidents in the last three years. Must maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license during employment. Must be insurable under NATIVE HEALTH’s liability auto policy.
  2. Must pass a criminal background check and obtain a Class I Fingerprint Clearance Card within the initial ninety (90) calendar days of employment and retain a valid card while employed with NATIVE HEALTH.
  3. Must pass substance abuse testing upon employment and submit to random testing during employment.
  4. Must provide an updated immunization (IZ) record at the time of employment.
  5. Must have a current (within 12 months) Tuberculosis (TB) skin report upon employment and provide an annual update.
  6. Must obtain BLS certified within (90) calendar days of employment and maintain certification during employment.

  8. Ability to train and mentor staff members in all duties and expectations.
  9. Knowledge of medical terminology.
  10. Proficient in medication administration.
  11. Knowledge of infection control and bloodborne pathogen processes.
  12. Ability to work efficiently and comfortably with other medical clinic employees.
  13. Knowledge and use of supplies and medical equipment.
  14. Skills in the use of medical instruments and supplies.
  15. Culturally competent; able to work with a diverse workforce and client population.
  16. Leadership and supervisory skills to manage other medical assistants.
  17. Knowledge and experience in vaccine coordination, including storage, handling, and administration.
  18. Professional integrity and excellent work ethic.
  19. Evidence of current medication administration knowledge and skills.
  20. Comprehension of HIPAA regulations, compliance, and violation reporting.
  21. Knowledge regarding training staff in the electronic health record system.
