POSITION TITLE: Controller  

CLASSIFICATION: Finance, regular, full-time, exempt  

SUPERVISOR: CFO 

  

POSITION SUMMARY 

Manage finance and accounting departments, providing information, primarily financial in nature, about all company activities that will assist administration, management, and other users in making educated economic decisions. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

  1. Oversee the activities of the corporate accounting department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports, including, but not limited to, Chart of Accounts maintenance, internal and external monthly, annual financial statements, annual audits, and annual budgets. 
  2. Review monthly financials with operations management team members. 
  3. Oversee the activities of disbursement, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, purchase orders, petty cash, core employee expense reports, and cash control, including bank reconciliations, core payroll processing, and total corporate payroll tax compliance. 
  4. Supervise accounting staff, ensuring all payroll and AP items are completed accurately, timely, and in accordance with company policies. 
  5. Oversee the activities of grants receivable to ensure the accurate and timely management of all grants receivable aging components, including assistance with applications, expense allocations, billings, cash receipts, etc; funding service management, which includes quarter and year-end payroll closing, including federal and state reports; and assist with grant reporting – financial and statistical  
  6. Establish and maintain systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes, and data and enhance the company's value. This includes updating procedures as needed and making recommendations for policy updates. 
  7. Respond to the CFO as assigned with accurate and timely work to facilitate financial needs. 
  8. Participate in a wide variety of unique projects and compile a variety of special reports. 
  9. Communicate with co-workers, management, clients, and others in a courteous and professional manner. 
  10. Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions. 
  11. Other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY 

This position is responsible for managing the accounting department. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT  

This job operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing

cabinets and fax machines.  

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. The ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary would be required.  

 

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK 

This is a full-time position. The days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Evening and weekend work may be rarely required, as job duties demand. 

 

TRAVEL 

This position does not anticipate travel requirements. 

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  

  1. Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. 
  2. Five years or more of experience in a controller position. 
  3. Five years or more of hands-on accounting managerial experience. 
  4. Five years or more of non-profit fund accounting experience. 
  5. Five years or more of experience working with multiple grant funding sources. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

This position requires the following qualifications to perform the above duties and carry out the above responsibilities:  

  1. Bachelor's or master's degree in business administration, accounting/finance  
  2. Has strong working knowledge of multicultural communities, Indian culture, Indian Country, social service systems, and community resources 
  3. Has demonstrated strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and conflicting deadlines  
  4. Has demonstrated the ability to communicate both orally and in writing in an effective and timely manner and has strong conflict-resolution skills 
  5. Has the ability to work in a team environment, both in leadership and peer relationships  
  6. Has demonstrated strong proofreading and editing skills with excellent grammatical and financial skills  
  7. Can capably operate a variety of office equipment, such as a computer, photocopier, scanner, printer, postage meter, etc.  
  8. Can capably use Microsoft Word or other word processing programs and has the ability to be trained to capably use other software programs, such as Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, Sage Intacct, EPIC, and Provider One 
  9. Has the ability to move 25-30 lb. items, sit for extended periods of time, and manage stress  
  10. Has the ability to travel locally and for training 
  11. Uses “Sacred Hospitality” in serving patients, peers and community 
  12. Supports recovery-based lifestyles and patient outcomes 
  13. Can successfully pass a criminal background check, OIG check, and a pre-employment UA/BA
