What does the position do?
- Responsible for the daily enforcement of all established safety programs, regulations, and safe work practices during project implementation.
- Provide instructions to workers on safe work procedures, safety regulations, and emergency plans.
- Provide support to the project team during the proposal phase in identifying the potential safety issues of a potential project.
- Prepare Activity Hazard Analyses and project-specific Safety Plans as required.
- Train workers and subcontractors prior to the start of work to all safety-related plans and procedures and ensure understanding.
- Investigate incidents promptly to identify underlying causes. Complete necessary documents and report to Safety Director.
- Perform regular on-site hazard assessments to identify unsafe work practices and hazards. Provide recommendations to eliminate issues and ensure corrective action is taken.
- Ensure all safety signage and postings are installed on a project as required and understand environmental compliance.
- Conduct daily documented safety inspections and routine equipment inspections as required by contract documents.
- Co-lead the Plan of the Day meeting with the Construction Superintendent.
- Provide industrial hygiene monitoring as needed based on the hazards identified during field work.
- Assist in performing compliance audits and implement follow-up corrective actions to ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety and Safety Policy.
- Identify and obtain project-specific permits that will be needed to perform the scope of work.
- Ensure daily and weekly safety meetings are performed and documented for all site employees and subcontractors.
- Provide weekly safety reports to the Safety Director.
- Keep up with current knowledge of safety literature, regulations and codes or practice.
- Performs other duties as are appropriate and as assigned.
What will top candidates bring to the table?
- Minimum of 5 years of construction industry safety experience.
- Minimum of 5 years federal government contracting experience.
- At least 24 hours of formal safety training each year for the past 5 years.
- Current OSHA 10, OSHA 30, and OSHA 40 certified.
- Current First Aid/CPR.
- Ability to obtain a Q clearance
