Job purpose
The Greenhouse Technician position will assist in specific duties to ensure the overall success of the Greenhouse. Specific duties include: receiving, movement, organization, watering, pruning, cleaning and preparation of plant material within the greenhouse for installation. There is a strong emphasis on productivity, efficiency and employee safety.
Greenhouse Technician Duties
- Assists in all greenhouse activities through watering, pruning, planting, grooming, fertilizing, removing debris, weeding, pruning, repotting, maintaining and inventorying tools and cleaning greenhouse.
- Provide current information to Greenhouse Manager regarding plant accessions, removals, transfers, and label requirements.
- Confirm and audit new stock of tropical plants, flowers, interior and exterior plants
- Assist with labeling, filing and organizing plants according to work orders
- Identifying, monitoring and properly caring for possible pest issues and treating plants as needed
- Cleaning and re-potting tropical foliage as needed
- Aiding the transportation and preparation of plant material per work order tickets
- Cleaning, sanitizing and shining new pots for installations
- Perform all tasks in a manner compliant with and in support of all safety and stewardship related company policies and practices, including completing all required training courses and wearing proper PPE at all times.
- Maintaining and repairing the specialized ventilation systems and managing the irrigation equipment
Qualifications
- 2 years of horticultural experience
- 1 year of greenhouse technician experience
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines; highly detailed oriented and meticulous
- Excellent communications skills; verbal, written and presentation
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work autonomously without direct supervision
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Power Point and other computer skills required.
Physical requirements
- Able to lift up to 60LBS
- Able to stand for up to 8 hours at a time
- Able to work in a warehouse, office, commercial buildings and professional settings
