Job Overview
The Natural History Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering understanding and appreciation of the natural world, is seeking a highly organized and versatile Office and Communications Assistant to join our team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the Institute's day-to-day operations run smoothly while maintaining effective communication with our community and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Process financial transactions and support bookkeeping tasks using QuickBooks Online and Square.
- Maintain and update donor and membership databases using a customer relationship management platform, ensuring accurate records and effective donor engagement.
- Assist program director with email campaigns and newsletters via Mailchimp to communicate with supporters and promote the organization’s mission.
- Manage the Institute’s social media accounts
- Post NHI events on community bulletin boards.
- Provide administrative support, including ordering and selling NHI merchandise, handling correspondence, and maintaining organized documentation.
- Efficiently use Google Suite and Microsoft Office to streamline daily operations and communications.
- Deliver exceptional customer service in interactions with staff, volunteers, and community members.
- Assist in the implementation of project-specific initiatives that align with the Institute's mission.
Experience
- Previous experience in communications, public relations, or a related field is preferred.
- Proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, customer relationship management software, QuickBooks Online, Mailchimp, WordPress, and Square.
- Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Interest in and appreciation of the natural world.
- A background in non-profit or mission-driven work is desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently when necessary.
