Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and RID certified Sign Language Interpreter to facilitate communication between hearing and deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals. The ideal candidate will be proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and possess a strong understanding of linguistics to accurately interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa. This role is crucial in promoting inclusivity and ensuring effective communication in various settings, including educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and community events.
Responsibilities
- Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) for deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals during court hearings.
- Translate ASL back into spoken language for hearing individuals to ensure clear communication.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism while interpreting sensitive information.
- Collaborate with other interpreters and professionals to provide the best possible service to clients.
- Experience working with Certified Deaf Interpreters (CDI).
Requirements
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is mandatory; certification as a sign language interpreter is REQUIRED.
- Strong understanding of linguistics to effectively interpret complex concepts and terminology.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal, with the ability to convey messages accurately.
- Experience in interpreting in various settings (legal, medical, community) is REQUIRED.
- Ability to work flexible hours based on client needs, including evenings or weekends if required.
