NRDC is a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. We use law, science, and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our people helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act and many of the implementing regulations. NRDC is seeking a Social Content and Advocacy intern to work with the communications team associated with our Washington D.C. office.
Position Summary
The Social Content team is a robust group of individuals who work diligently to provide the most compelling and poignant content pieces on matters regarding our planet and our communities. From lead in drinking water; to raising awareness of toxic neonics; to legal battles to defend our planet, over the last several years our content has covered a range of topics but has a set goal in mind : To move people to action. Here's where you come in.
Social media interns play an active role in the movement to protect our planet by doing substantive work that is embedded in writing, research and collaboration.
Responsibilities
Over the course of the internship :
Research environmental topics pertaining to nature, wildlife and environmental health.
- Monitor ongoing social trends and conversations for opportunities to engage and captivate our audiences.
- Copywrite and edit social posts for our channels, including Facebook, LinkedIn, and X / Twitter.
- Attend weekly meetings and be an avid note taker.
- Pitch social content and create engaging pieces for our channels
- Identify opportunities to increase our brand through social media
- Analyze the metrics and KPIs associated with our content, and work alongside manager to identify areas of growth.

This position is a paid internship for a student enrolled in an accredited undergrad program paid $6,600.00 bi-weekly over the course of 10 weeks.
Our offices are open and we are operating in a hybrid model. We offer NRDCers flexibility , and we ask them to come into the office and spend meaningful time there in collaboration with their colleagues. We call this purposeful presence.
